Optum consulting is looking to expand their offerings within their Health Management pillar, and is looking for a senior resource to support the expected growth of value-based care consulting. This role will also potentially support other related areas, as needed, such as quality, payer-provider collaborations, ACO models, and health system strategy. This resource will lead the delivery of and provide SME support for complex engagements. In addition, this resource will also support business development activities, such as new pursuits and support of offering research and development, and have operational leadership duties within the Value-Based Care (VBC) Consulting practice.
 
Primary Responsibilities:

Business Development (~33% Time Allocation):
Define the business development strategy for a subset of the practice, as required
Own and manage sales accounts, leads, pursuits, and proposals
Identify and own the development of new VBC consulting solutions that will be brought to market, leveraging research and internal resources
Effectively build and maintain relationships with internal and external clients
Identify opportunities for sales and business development collaboration with other Optum business segments
Develop thought leadership and share point of view in various medium
Program Delivery and Oversight (~66% Time Allocation):
Direct responsibility for the delivery oversight of large scale program execution; large scale programs are defined as high cost, high complexity and/or high risk
Facilitate development of business segment and enterprise level planning and program objective setting
Participate in senior level program funding and prioritization decision processes
Provide strategic input to the development of program roadmap and timelines
Create a team oriented work climate that enables professional development and encourages creative solutions and strategies
Support the management of resources within programs
Support program communication plan and execution
Require that quality assurance methods are implemented within the program
Provide status updates and review of programs to senior leadership
Provide coaching and mentoring of project team with the goal of developing and retaining talent within the organization
This position is a telecommute from home position (anywhere in the continental USA)
 
**Travel is required for this role and typically our associates leave out early Monday and return late on Thursday. Location of residence is flexible for this role; however, travel is a requirement.**

Requirements

Required Qualifications:

5+ years of experience across population health management capabilities including people, processes, and technology
5+ years of experience in a number of population health management programs / functions, including Disease Management, Case Management, Utilization Management, Transition Management, Wellness, etc.
5+ years of team lead, consulting leadership, or project management experience
Understanding of provider-embedded and led value-based care payment and delivery models
Experience developing new business and identifying add-on work
Experience writing and executing business plans for new consulting solutions
Ability to travel up to 80% (nationally, both coasts)
 
Preferred Qualifications:

MBA/MHA/Population Health Management related degree
5+ years of working in a Big 5 or large consulting organization
5+ years of experience leading large-scale consulting engagements or large internal healthcare projects/programs
Practice transformation experience in clinical environments
Experience with Medicaid populations for population health management
Experience with and knowledge of Medicare payment models
