Position Summary

The ClinicalNurse Manager of Hematology Oncology/Infusion will be responsible for dailyoperations to include, but not limited to staffing, financial performance,quality and safety, patient/staff/physician satisfaction, compliance withregulatory agencies and policy and procedure development. The Clinical NurseManager will maintain clinical competency and acts as a clinical resource. Theclinical Nurse Manager is the liaison between staff members, physicians and isan advocate for patients/family members to ensure continuity of care. TheClinical Nurse Manager works closely with leaders throughout KentuckyOne HealthCancer Care, MBO's, NOSL to develop process, policy and procedure, programdevelopment and growth.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

To performthis job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essentialduty satisfactorily. Other duties may beassigned.

* Provides leadership to assigned staff that reflectsthe mission, vision and culture of KentuckyOne Health. Oversees daily operations and assists withprocess improvement.

* Maintains clinical competency. Serves as a clinicalresource for department and service line. Maintains Oncology certification.

* Prepares staff schedules ensuring an adequatenumber and skill set of staff are available to provide quality patient care.

* Assists with quality improvement activities.Collects and analyzes data. Initiates action plans as necessary to improveperformance. Participates in hospital wide quality improvement activities andsurvey processes. Ensures that quality care is delivered at all times.Maintains a safe environment for patients, visitors and staff.

* Works cooperatively with all KentuckyOne Health,KentuckyOne health Cancer Care, CHI NOSL leaders. Collaborates with communityleaders of many disciplines to meet customer needs and promote the developmentof Oncology services and staff.

* Ensures compliance with all regulatory agencyrequirements.

* Assists with annual budgets (revenue, expenses andcapital). Ensures charges are entered and reconciled daily. Reviews monthlyfinancial reports and is able to justify/explain variances. Operates departmentwithin budgetary limits and looks for ways to improve efficiency. Balancesquality and cost in making decisions on how resources are utilized andbudgeted. Understands requirements of outpatient oncology reimbursementincluding coding and billing requirements.

* Performs all HR functions-completes personnelrequisitions, interviews candidates, participates in the hiring process,counsels/coaches/disciplines as appropriate, participates in the orientationprocess, assists with preparing/revising job descriptions, evaluatesperformance, oversee payroll, etc. Enforces all University Hospital HumanResource policies. Ensures that staff meets organizational behavioralstandards. Participates in recruiting and retention efforts to facilitate anadequate number of qualified staff.

* Delegates appropriately.

* Assists with patient/staff/physician satisfactionactivities. Reviews patient satisfactiondata and comments monthly and shares with staff. Implements activities toimprove the patient/family experience at University Hospital and the BrownCancer Center. Addresses any complaints or concerns in a timely manner. Roundswith patients/family members daily and reviews information received torecognize staff and make improvements to service. Reviews staff satisfactiondata annually and implements activities to improve staff satisfaction. Rounds with all staff regularly. Rewards andrecognizes staff based on staff recommendations, rounding and comments noted inpatient satisfaction surveys. Evaluates turnover risks and implementsstrategies to reduce staff turnover. Maintains on-going interface with medical staff and acts on concerns ina timely manner.

* Conducts monthlycommunication meetings with assigned staff. Prepares agenda and minutes and documents attendance. Communicates issues and concerns withDirector in a timely manner.

* Attends and actively participateson assigned committees to includeTumor Boards and Cancer Committee.

* Assists with policy andprocedure development, review and revision. Communicates new and revisedpolicies and procedures to staff.

* Provides opportunitiesfor staff education and development. Participates in Oncology educational offerings.

* Ensures staff educationon Mosaiq, Oncology Medical Record. Provides leadership and compliance forlegal medical record and meaningful use. Works closely with state leadershipfor standardization and compliance.

* Maintains professionaldevelopment by actively seeking opportunities for continued learning.

* Performsother duties as assigned by authorized personnel or as required to meet theneeds of the department, internal and external customers in support of thefacilities mission and values.

Qualifications

Therequirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/orability required.

Education andTraining: Graduationfrom an accredited/approved school of nursing. BSN preferred and requiredwithin 2 years of hire date. Master'sdegree (MSN, MHA, MBA) preferred.

Experience: Minimum of four yearsclinical Oncology experience required. Previous management experiencepreferred.

License and Certification: Current Kentucky nursing license. BLS required. Oncology certification (OCN) required.
