Community Pharmacy Residency Program (PGY1), Springfield, Massachusetts

The Community Practice Residency Program affiliated with Western New England University College of Pharmacy and Walgreens is designed to provide the resident with a structured education and training experience. The mission of our residency is to provide post graduate training that enables residents to build on their professional skills, achieve their professional goals, and become a leader within the profession. The resident will develop expertise in medication therapy management (MTM), chronic disease state management, as well as initiate, implement and maintain collaborative working relationships within the community.

The residency will provide an opportunity for the pharmacist to practice at the Western New England University College of Pharmacy Community Patient Care Center and at Walgreens in Springfield, Massachusetts. Patient care duties will include collaborating with other health care providers to improve patient outcomes, providing comprehensive medication regimen reviews, educating patients and providers, as well as counseling regarding medications and/or chronic conditions. The resident will be expected to design, plan, and implement community screening events. Academic opportunities include small group discussions as well as large didactic lectures. He/she will co-precept Introductory and Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiential learners from Western New England University College of Pharmacy. Upon completion of this program, the resident will have developed the knowledge and skills necessary to advance the practice of pharmacy and become a leader in the profession and within Walgreens.

Residency Activities

* Medication Therapy Management

* Present research findings at appropriate regional and national professional meetings with subsequent publication

* Teach and precept learners at the College and pharmacy

* Residents are eligible for Paid Time Off (PTO). The rate at which you accrue your PTO will be based on your years of service, average hours per week, and position. Resident pharmacists may accrue approximately 15 days (120 hours) de-pending on average hours worked and time in position.

Candidate Requirements

* Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from a college or school of phar-macy accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education

* Massachusetts pharmacist license by November 1st

* Letter of intent explaining why you are pursuing a community pharmacy residency and what you hope to gain from the residency program.

* On-site interview (upon invitation)

* Presentation at on-site interview on a topic related to community pharmacy

* Individuals must participate in and adhere to the rules of the ASHP Resident Matching Program
