Position Overview:
RockSugar Pan Asian Kitchen, an upscale Southeast Asian restaurant, will be growing from one location to two in 2017. In addition, an exciting fast-casual concept is anticipated to launch in 2017! Due to this upcoming expansion, we are looking for a restaurant startup and operational expert who will be a key part of facilitating these new openings and growth moving forward. 
 
As the Training Manager you will report to the SVP of Global Development and provide key direction on designing and implementing New Restaurant Opening (NRO) processes, creating and modifying training materials and developing tools and metrics to improve existing and new restaurant opening performance.
 
 
Here’s more of what you will get to do: 
  • Collaborate with the SVP of Global Development, Director of Culinary, Restaurant General Managers, Chefs, Leads, Staff and Senior Manager of Project Management and Financial Analysis to ensure proper implementation of new and existing operational development and training. 
  • Develop new and revised training program ideas, documents and recommendations. 
  • Design, write, and revise materials including leaders’ guides, development guides, workbooks and handouts.  
  • Coordinate the translation of training materials using outside vendors when necessary.  
  • Direct stand up instruction (one-on-one, or group sessions) of menu and ingredient information, systems/tools, service standards and procedures. (E.g. Hospitality, Server Training, Lead Training and Orientation). 
  • Support General Managers with Manager, Chef and Lead Trainer goal setting and assist in creating a game plan for goal attainment.  
  • Evaluate, monitor and supervise staff performance levels and provide coaching and recommendations to Chefs and Managers regarding staff performance reviews and evaluations. 
  • Provide input on the retention and succession planning of Lead Trainers and staff.  
  • Complete training evaluations for each restaurant, present results to executives to ensure genuine hospitality, quality, recruiting, operational and training standards are met by new restaurant and operations teams. 
  • Responsible for pre-opening; including people, operations planning, materials, systems, tools and succession planning; insuring that all new restaurants open on-time and within budget. 
  • Manage the interviewing, selection and completion of New Restaurant Opening Lead team members.  
  • Monitor and report (weekly and monthly) pre-opening and cost center financials through final reconciliation. 
  • Assist with facility mapping, labeling and other components of the new restaurant layout. 
  • Provide writing, formatting, and proofreading support for the department and cross functionally.  
  • Provide graphic design/illustration/video shooting support to increase effectiveness of materials.

Qualifications
Required:
  • Willing to travel 60% of the time 
  • 2+ years of restaurant management experience 
  • Extensive knowledge of the restaurant industry relating to operations and development 
  • Hands-on experience opening at least ten (10) new restaurants 
  • Proficient in MS Office suite, MS Outlook, MS Publisher, PDF Writer and graphics programs 
  • The ability to create materials that are succinct and user-friendly 
  • Strong project management and organizational skills 
  • Excellent training, coaching, and presentation skills 
 
Preferred:
  • Bachelor’s Degree  
  • 2+ years of restaurant/hospitality training experience 
  • Instructional design experience 
  • New concept restaurant opening experience 
  • Experience in premier, upscale, chef-driven, entrepreneurial restaurant environment
