CAREGIVER POSITIONS AND CAREGIVER PAY
    
CAREGiver Position Descriptions (Effective December 1, 2015)
These Position Descriptions are intended to describe the general nature and level of work performed by those assigned to our CAREGiving positions.  This is not a comprehensive list of all responsibilities, duties, skills, efforts and conditions associated with these positions.  The Company reserves the right to modify this description in the future, with or without notice to the employee.  These Position Descriptions do not create an employment contract, implied or otherwise, and employment with the Company remains at will.  These responsibilities are subject to possible modification to reasonably accommodate individuals with disabilities.
 
 
Companion/Home Helper Responsibilities                   $9.15/ hour
  • Provide Companionship, Conversation and Respite Care.
  • Stimulate Mental Awareness by Assisting with Entertainment; playing games; Working on crafts; Reading; Reminiscing about the past; Watching movies or TV programs.
  • Monitor food expiration dates; Prepare grocery lists; Monitor diet and eating; prepare light meals and clean up from meal preparation.
  • Assist with walking by providing an arm for stabilization; Assist with light exercise; Assist with bathroom and shower care.
  • Arrange Appointments; Maintain a calendar; Organize mail; Mail bills and letters; Provide appointment and medication reminders
  • Contribute to a positive living climate for the overall quality of life for the Client.
  • Light vacuuming, dusting, kitchen and bathroom housekeeping; Taking out trash.               
  • Do laundry and ironing; Change linens; Make beds; Drop and pick up dry cleaning.
  • Plan and prepare larger meals or meals to freeze for the future; clean up from meal preparation; shop for groceries and supplies.
  • Accompany Client on appointments, shopping, errands and outings; Escort to plays, lunch, dinner, religious services, concerts, sporting events.
 
 
Personal Care                                                                 $10.25/hour
NOTE: A PCA must have a certificate of personal care competency training.
  • Include all of the responsibilities of Companion and Home Helper
  • Provide personal care to a Client who has been approved to require that level of care
  • Provide hands on assistance with toileting and continence care                         bathing, dressing and grooming
  • Provide non-sterile wound care, hands on assistance with eating (including stomach tube feeding)
  • Assist with prescription eye drops and provide hands off prescribed assistance with exercises
  • Observe and report vital signs or glucose levels
  • Only an RN nurse fill pill boxes with pre-dosed medications
  • Assist with mobility
 
 
 
2-Hour Short Visit: Comp $11.35 or PC$12.35 per hr for two hours 
NOTE: this is a higher rate of pay for specifically designated 2-Hour Short Visits.  This may not be available for clients whose services are paid by certain third party payers (e.g., Veterans Administration or Long Term Care Insurance).
  • Include all the responsibilities of a Companion or Personal Care Aide. 
  • Should the shift go long, the standard hourly or weekend rate will be paid for any time spent working in excess of two hours. 
 
Sleepover Hourly Overnight (8 total) Comp $8.75 / PC $9.25 per hr
NOTE: this is a discounted rate which applies when the CAREGiver assists the client through the night but is also able to sleep at least 5 hours during the 8-hour period.                                                                     
  • Include all the responsibilities of Companion and/or Personal Care Aide.
  • Assist the Client to bed.  
  • Assist Client throughout the night as Client requests.
  • Be present as a source of reassurance.
  • Document and report how many hours were spent assisting the Client and the amount of time the Client was asleep to insure CAREGiver pay and Client charges are correct.
 
Mileage                                                                                           $.50/mile
If the CAREGiver uses his/her own vehicle for Client services
(i.e. transport a Client on an errand, to an appointment, etc.) with/or
without the Client in the vehicle.
 
Additional CAREGiver Responsibilities and Qualifications                                     
  • Perform other reasonable, related duties as assigned or requested to allow Clients to live as independently as possible.
  • Report any significant changes in the Clients’ needs or living conditions.
  • Speak and hear English clearly in person and on the telephone.
  • Read and write English on an average adult level.
  • Treat and care for clients and their property with dignity and respect.
  • Communicate with the Client in a friendly and compassionate manner.
  • Communicate with office staff to ensure service expectations are met.
  • Before providing Personal Care Aide services, a CAREGiver must have completed an approved training course as specified under our Virginia Home Care license.
  • Have a vehicle, valid driver’s license and current vehicle insurance.
  • Be able to adapt to various individual living environments and locations
