POSITION SUMMARY

Master Electrician License is required to perform lead and skilled electrical and plumbing tasks.  Plans and oversees job assignments of other facilities maintenance employees.  Performs related work as required. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.   Leads and supervises the performance of facilities maintenance workers skilled in electrical, plumbing or carpentry.  General supervision is received from the Facilities Maintenance Superintendent who checks work for results and conformance to departmental rules and/or Federal or State regulations.  Supervises facilities maintenance workers in the installation and repair of electrical systems.

 

EXAMPLES OF WORK (Illustrative Only)

  • Performs inspections of POA facilities to determine maintenance needs.
  • Plans wiring and installation of equipment and fixtures such as switches, circuit breakers, and fuse boxes.
  • Inspects electrical projects for conformance to company specifications and /or state electrical code.
  • Designs, constructs and oversees the installation of cabinetry projects.
  • Assigns work of Facilities Maintenance Workers I and II's.
  • Interprets and implements company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations.
  • Interprets specifications and blueprints; assigns duties to facilities maintenance workers.
  • Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet schedules.
  • Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists others in solving work project problems.
  • Requisitions supplies and materials required for all facility projects.
  • Installs and repairs electrical components (power supply, wiring, equipment, fixtures, controls, electrical conduit, circuit breakers, fuse boxes, etc. for POA facilities.
  • Provides estimates, plans and executes projects for POA facilities.
  • Plans layout of wiring and installs wiring, conduit, and electrical apparatus in buildings.
  • Ensures safety equipment is used and safety procedures are followed.
  • Worksites may require use of a canister mask.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

May supervise 1 to 3 employees in the Facilities Maintenance Department.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must have or obtain a Master Electrician License within 90 days and be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Fifth year college or university program certificate; or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Ability to obtain and/or maintain a valid driver's license.  Possess or have the ability to obtain a master electrical, plumbing license with the State of Arkansas or have advanced ability and knowledge in carpentry, or posses a combination of experience and skills in these professions.  Ability to obtain and/or maintain physical requirements to wear a canister mask.
