A successful General Manager of Data and Analytics will have the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a 4-year university or equivalent combination of education and experience; MBA or other advanced degree preferred.
  • At least 7 years of experience with Big Data sets and technology, architecture and models.
  • At least 3 years of supervisory/manager experience.
  • Knowledge of SQL, Hadoop, Advanced Excel and other platforms.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Experience within the media industry preferred.

The General Manager of Data and Analytics for DISH Media Sales will be based in New York and will lead the research, analytics, reporting and merchandising of DISH's robust viewer measurement data.

 

In this role, the General Manager will set the overall direction of the DISH Media Sales analytics team.  The position will oversee a team of approximately 8-12 people and will frequently interact with other groups within Media Sales as well as other divisions of DISH.  The General Manager will also work with DISH’s data partners and with DISH Product Management and Echostar to drive data innovation across new video platforms and devices.

 

Primary responsibilities fall into the following categories:

  • Oversee the DISH Media Sales viewer measurement and analytics effort.  Manage a team of bright and motivated data scientists, engineers and analysts.
  • Provide clear guidelines and goals for analytics and research projects.  Formulating and executing on data product roadmaps for addressable and linear TV as well as Sling TV. Provide guidance for programmatic innovation and other audience-based initiatives as needed.
  • Identifying and initiating new business and research initiatives of interest to DISH Media Sales.  Licensing and monetizing STB data and derivatives to potential partners in intuitive and visually interesting ways. Understanding and upholding DISH's privacy policies across platforms.
  • Establishing and maintaining key partner relationships (e.g. comScore, Nielsen, Experian, Acxiom etc.) for buying and selling data.  Forming and/or evaluating business cases for new potential partnerships that utilize DISH viewer measurement data.
  • Work with other data and analytics teams within the company to synchronize DISH data efforts and minimize duplication of effort.
  • Report to the Vice President of Media Sales and Analytics.
