Purpose of Position: To serve as an on-the-job training position for college upper-class students preparing for an accounting profession. Assist the company during the peak summer months of our fiscal year end close.

Principal Responsibilities and Duties:

1. Complete the bookkeeper training program by working the various functions required to handle daily, monthly and annual accounting functions for Corporate/Retail/Wholesale.

2. Margin and expense review, communication with Retail/Wholesale locations and analysis of operating and financial information for Corporate/Retail/Wholesale locations.

3. Learn the general ledger system and how to access online and hard copy information from the system.

4. Work with the appropriate manager/supervisor to reconcile several ledger accounts and make journal entries.

5. Learn month and year-end closing processes from both the accounting and accounting systems viewpoint.

6. Learn the process of sales and use tax reporting and reconciling.

7. Learn the processes involved in maintaining and running operating and budget reports on the computer financial system.

8. Learn to provide analysis of information using queries, electronic spreadsheets and other software.

9. Work under the overall supervision of the respective controller, however may be assigned to individual Accounting Manager/Accounting Supervisor during the training process.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Southern States' Summer Internship Program offers students an opportunity to experience and contribute to our overall success for students who meet the following criteria:

  • Enrolled in a 2 year program
  • Enrolled in a 4 year program as a rising Junior or Senior
  • Enrolled in a 5 year program upon completion of 4th year of program

Students must maintain a GPA of 2.50/4.00 or above.  The program offers competitive pay and will extend for 10 consecutive weeks; 40 hour per week.
