As Jr. Instructional Designer at The Cheesecake Factory, you will play an integral part in our Performance Development Department by assisting with the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of our competency-based learning tools that support our company’s Mission, Vision and Values. These tools could include, but are not limited to: job aids, leader led materials, job shadowing experiences, coaching tools, web-based eLearning, testing and certifications.  

 

Reporting to the Senior Instructional Designer, you will work closely with all levels of the Performance Development team, supporting the instructional design initiatives for a global $2 billion publicly traded company with more than 200 full service restaurants and more than 35,000 staff members. 

PLEASE NOTE:  This opportunity will be located at our Corporate Support Center in Calabasas Hills, CA.  Relocation assistance is available.

 

Here’s more of what you’ll get to do:

  • Work closely with the Instructional Design team to identify learning methods and develop training materials focused on defined learning objectives.  
  • Help evaluate and edit existing curricula using instructional design principles, adult learning theory, and learning styles (print and eLearning). This includes designing, developing and/or editing facilitator guides, PowerPoint content, workbooks, activities, and auditing/reviewing eLearning modules. 
  • Maintain accuracy of training materials by tracking SOPs, policy and recipe changes, and making updates according to calendared revision cycles. 
  • Coordinate and support program pilots, trainer sessions and rollouts. 
  • Create and administer training surveys. Review feedback and partner with the Instructional Design Team to implement improvements as part of continuous improvement cycles. 
  • Provide tier 1 program support, including researching and responding to inquiries from learners. 
  • Support multiple training projects with overlapping timelines; create and maintain action plans, and provide weekly status updates. 
  • Use learning technologies and collaboration tools (e.g., MS Office, quiz and survey tools, GoTo Meeting/webinar tools, Articulate Storyline, file sharing/transfer software).

Qualifications
What we Require:  
  • College degree, certification in instructional design, with an emphasis on eLearning, or equivalent work experience in education or business.  
  • 1+ year Junior Instructional Designer, training coordinator, or classroom facilitator experience. 
  • Good written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Proficient in MS Office applications, primarily Word, Excel and PowerPoint. 
  • Experience with Instructional Design methodology and Adult Learning theory. 
  • Proficient in basic courseware development, including: job aids, leaders’ guides, resource documents, learning activities, presentations. 
  • Experience with basic photo tools (e.g., Snagit, Photoshop, etc.). 
  • Experience with authoring software, such as Articulate Storyline. 
  • Experience with test and survey tools, such as QuizMaker, Survey Monkey, etc. 
  • Ability to effectively manage personal action plans, tasks and timelines to meet deadlines. 

What we Prefer: 

  • Experience writing voice over/narrative scripts, how-to guides, newsletters and role-plays. 
  • Experience with basic screen capture/eLearning authoring software (e.g. Camtasia and Articulate) 
  • Experience with a Learning Management System (LMS) and testing of eLearning courses.  
  • Experience with content management and database tools, such as Access, SharePoint or Learning Content Management Systems (LCMS).
