RN Extern -Med Surg-7a-7p - Full-time / Part-time

The Registered Nurse Extern functions as a supplemental part of the patient care team by performing selected patient care treatments and tasks under the direct supervision of an assigned Registered Nurse. Ensure adherence to all Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignments may include newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric age groups,. Encourage retention of nursing graduates through provision of supplemental practice experience within the workplace. Assist in the transition from student nurse to professional RN practice. Provide experiences to increase awareness of the nursing scope of practice. Develop the future nurse's critical-thinking and professional communication skills. Advance the capacity of the future nurse to deliver patient care that includes clinical best practices, delivered through patient-centered approaches. Education: Enrollment in a BSN or ADN nursing program Expected graduation date within next two semesters GPA of 3.0 or above preferred Two letters of recommendation from nursing instructors. Experience: Successful completion of Foundations/Fundamentals of Nursing and first clinical rotation. Eligibility of Registered Nurse Extern: To ensure continual eligibility the RN extern authorizes their school of nursing to communicate with the hospital information related to student nurse record; externship application, pre-employment screening, including but not limited to drug screening; performance as an extern; and any other information relevant to him/her as a summer student nurse extern. Licenses/Certificates: Current BLS certification or obtained during the first week of orientation. Basic Dysrhythmia/Coronary Care within 1 year.
