Director of Euphoric Experiences -  Operations

 

We are looking to hire an experienced QSR manager for our Ben & Jerry’s Scoop shop/s. Depending on your experience and willingness to take on work, offer is for single or 2 stores in close proximity.

 

OBJECTIVES:

 

To plan and manage the retail operations of scoop shops and seasonal kiosks/carts to include the planning, operations, equipment maintenance, banking, marketing and financial reporting of the scoop shops

 

To ensure that the development and implementation of all systems fully support and

comply with all franchise operating systems and exceed standard operating standards.

 

To ensure the proper hands on training support is provided. Training that focuses on

daily operations, customer relations, staff orientation and cleanliness.

 

No day is ever the same.  Most days will be consumed with our scoop shops managing staff and the everyday operations at these shops.  However, some days we cater parties.  Some days we cater weddings.  Some days we vend on the street.  Some days we clean the trucks. Some days we stock the trucks, scoop shops and warehouse.  And some days we book events so that we can keep ourselves busy.  You get the idea!

 

There is overlap between this position and other positions in our company.  You will be expected to jump in when necessary and assist other managers when their plates are full, they are on vacation or we just need a little bit of help!  They are expected to do the same for you!

 

To train and develop a staff that provides a world-class customer experience.


 

STAFF: Store Managers, Assistant Managers, Shift Leaders, and Scoopers.

 

PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

 

  • Work with the Franchisees to manage operating plan and budget including meeting sales projections, margin goals, payroll, operating, and occupancy expenses, and inventory requirements.

 

  • Work with the Franchisee and other managers on programs that increase Scoop Shop and Off Premise sales.  Develop ideas on your own, with scoop shops owned by other Franchisees, Ben & Jerry’s Corporate or other businesses that have proven success in these areas.

 

  • Oversee the daily retail financial operations to include cash management, bank procedures, order inventory and register accuracy.  

 

  • Perform Safe Audit and keep a log of all keys and key owners.  Report results to Franchise Owners.  Establish cash and financial procedures and guidelines to meet security needs.

 

  • Develop, manage and prepare sales and inventory reports and analyses to enhance business operations.

 

  • Assist with the hiring of Retail Scoop Shop and off-premise employees.

 

  • Manage product selection specific to the retail sites, based on analysis of sales and margin performance by square foot in-stores and off premise facilities.  What’s selling? Bottled water? Waffle cones? Retail merchandise?

 

  • Ensure that all staff are compliant with Health Department Food Handler Cards, Ben & Jerry’s training requirements, and any other required employee documents are up to date.

 

  • Work with the Franchisees and other managers to manage the scoop shop staff, ranging from 10 to 75 employees.  To work as a team with other managers, employees and the franchisees.   Our entire operation requires a positive work attitude and teamwork in order to be successful.

 

  • Work with the Franchisee and other managers to manage the training and development for all scoop shop employees.

 

  • Establish a motivating work environment that actively encourages and supports employee involvement with an eye towards possible job advancement that is aligned with individual goals.

 

  • Supervise the implementation of retail store policies and procedures.

 

  • Work with the Franchisee and other managers to develop, assist, and manage sales contests and scoop shop employee incentive programs.

 

  • Implement the systems and procedures outlined in our Operating System Manual that will ensure the accuracy of all register, cash and financial transactions.

 

  • Accountable for the daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly financial reporting requirements for Micros (POS) and other systems. These include recording sales, cost of goods, payroll analysis and inventory management.

 

  • Work with the Franchisee and other managers on the ordering and storage of all on-site inventories.

 

  • Develop a strong mentor relationship with other managers based around the Ben & Jerry’s three-part Mission Statement; Social, Product and Economic

 

  • Actively participate in Ben & Jerry’s staff meetings, conference calls, social media, Intranet (Rolling Cone), and training activities.

 

  • Work with the Franchisee and other managers on corporate marketing plans & assist with local store marketing as outlined by the Franchisees.

 

  • Supervise and organize the tasks needed to maintain the overall operations including store & staff appearance, customer service, cleanliness, compliance with all safety and operating standards, merchandising and promotional execution.

 

  • Effectively communicate with internal and external customers, contractors and suppliers to ensure smooth store operations.

 

  • Respond and handle all customer complaints in a timely manner.

 

  • Ensure the maintenance and safe operation of all equipment within the scoop shops.

 

  • Ensure the scoop shops are properly staffed at all times to maximize sales and “control labor costs”.

 

  • Work in the off premise (catering and vending) area during the busy summer season as needed.  This position may require managing and staffing catering and vending events outside of the scoop shops.

 

  • Assist other managers in scheduling staff (When to Work-Scheduling software) and providing adequate coverage to meet store sales volume and operating hours.

 

  • Work on off premise vending events and catering events in the same capacity as the franchise owners and as necessary.

 

  • Coordinate special event and Ben & Jerry’s corporate opportunities with the Franchise Owners and Ben & Jerry’s Corporate.

 

  • Assist in the implementation of home delivery programs i.e. Grub Hub, Postmates, Uber Delivery, etc.

 

  • Assist with the staffing and implementation seasonal locations in high traffic and tourist areas.  Utilizing Scoop Trucks, Kiosks and carts.


 

SUMMARY OF POSITION

 

  • This is a salaried position that will require a minimum workload of 40 hours per week. This position will require working on a lot the weekends, holidays and summer months.

  • The position will be eligible for a bonus.

  • This position will be expected to at times work at other company locations.

  • Vacation leave will not be approved during the busy summer months.  It is expected that you will use your vacation leave during the “slow season” - October through March

  • Must have a valid drivers license, own car is a plus.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Be ready to have fun!  Fun is infectious.  You are responsible for making sure your staff are enjoying their jobs too!

  • Previous supervisory experience and have strong leadership skills.  You are the team leader and you’re expected to lead by example.

  • You absolutely MUST be highly organized and detail oriented.

  • Strong understanding and support of Ben & Jerry’s three-part Mission Statement.

  • Proven ability to be a creative and innovative thinker.

  • The ability to direct and manage a diverse staff.

  • A strong self-starter who takes the initiative to “Make Things Happen”!

  • A proven track record of attacking all issues with a sense of urgency.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.

  • Computer proficiency, esp. Excel, Word, and Windows.

  • Know how to work a GPS and not get lost.

  • MUST be able to get somewhere on time.  That means a half hour early in most cases.

  • Great verbal communication skills – Basically, we don’t want to use a code book to figure out what you’re trying to tell us.

  • This is a customer service oriented position.  You must have a strong desire to go above and beyond.

  • We are VERY busy in the summer months and need someone who can think on their feet and problem solve under pressure.

  • The ability to multi-task effectively is required.  Not chewing gum and driving a car kind of multi-tasking.  We’re talking updating a Facebook account while tweeting, rescheduling staff, composing an email and working out event details for a customer on the phone all at the same time kind of wizardry!

  • You must be able to function effectively in a busy environment and have the ability to pull off tasks you may have never done before using your best super-hero skills.

  • You have a camera on your phone? Do you whip it out at the most opportune moment?  Remember this when we ask you for the best photo you’ve taken!

  • Must be able to lift 15lbs. routinely and up to 30 lbs. occasionally

Work Environment:

 

We operate 7 days per week, morning and evening hours; individual must be available and willing to work nights, weekends, extended hours and holidays.

 

This position will be expected to put the company's schedule ahead of their personal schedule. You will also be required to work during the summer because it is the busiest time of the year for our business.  There are limited opportunities for vacation leave during this time.
