Optum is developing an exciting new venture intended to help stakeholders in health plans and contracted clinical practices better leverage the power of fully harmonized, multi-source patient information in automating shared / decentralized clinical management workflow. This platform’s functionality will evolve over time to help users more efficiently and effectively manage care for defined cohorts of patients based on its ability to rapidly ingest / harmonize data, different kinds of data, and then run clinical management business rules in real time. Platform users will ultimately spend less time gathering and reconciling information as a basis for clinical management of individual patients and populations, and more time executing clinical management processes for more patients.
 
As the Manager of a team of Clinical Workflow Improvement Analysts and Business Rule Analysts who together work with customers to redesign clinical management workflows, you will be challenged to keep a staff of approximately 6-8 people productively deployed on teams that conceptualize, define and help deliver new platform functionality for a variety of platform users (i.e. care managers in practices, Accountable Care Organization (ACO) managers in integrated delivery networks).
 
As a key resource within a new venture, you must maintain a high degree of focus and persistence, consistency and willingness to take initiative, excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills and the ability to get your team to deliver on time within their respective projects. Success in this role will require ability to prioritize, multi-task, plan ahead, as well as be flexible, resourceful, and support growth and development of clinical management workflow and business rule analyst resources.
 
Primary Responsibilities:


Supervise / coach workflow and business rule analysts working in small multi-disciplinary teams to solution for customers (helping define roles and related processes/data needs of platform users) and then helping transform user stories into functionality using scaled agile method

Coach team analysts as they evaluate program efficacy leveraging statistical analysis skills, and design improved clinical management processes for measurable improvement in program outcomes

Serve as the expert resource for your team regarding how clinical management processes are traditionally structured, including who does what, data used to conduct clinical management tasks, etc

Work with Program Development Managers and team analysts to support engaging program stakeholders in ways that improve understanding of platform user needs and related functionality / data access requirements

Support team in identifying process and program improvements, based on available data, role objectives and program outcomes

Support analysts’ work to structure and test out the impact of improved clinical management workflow

Support analysts’ participation in sprints with multi-functional team to translate optimized workflows into actual system functionality

Requirements

Required Qualifications:


Bachelor’s degree

5+ years of experience working within payer and / or provider / practice based organizations – running and / or supporting clinical management processes (case management, disease management, prior authorization, concurrent review, medical necessity, etc.)

2+ years of process improvement experience

5+ years of experience performing data analysis and making data-driven analytical decisions

Experience facilitating and leading meetings

Being a team player willing to cover and learn other roles and functions

Intermediate or Advanced Microsoft Access, SAS, SQL or other statistical analysis software

Intermediate or Advanced experience with Excel skills

Proficient in Microsoft Power Point and Visio

2+ years of experience performing statistical analysis with experience working with statistical software (e.g., SPSS; Minitab)

Prior experience managing a team

Preferred Qualifications:


Clinical degree (RN, PA, NP, LCSW, for example)

Master’s degree in Statistics, Health Administration, Public Health or related field OR equivalent experience

Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS) knowledge

Strong technical skills

Experience evaluating effectiveness of Clinical Quality improvement programs

Experience applying Six Sigma or other process improvement approaches
