Job Description:Charter Communication’s Advanced Engineering currently seeks a Principal Engineer to architect solutions for the development, deployment, and operation of cloud security infrastructure for our Service Delivery systems.
Essential Job Functions:
- At least 7 years systems engineering and administration experience in a virtualized Linux environment, and 10+ years overall experience. Must have worked with a combination of VMware, Linux, Cisco UCS and Enterprise Storage.
- Assist with life-cycle support of cloud technologies to include: software stack, compute & storage platform, automation and monitoring solutions to insure ongoing platform stability, capacity and performance.
- Evaluate, select and design capacity planning, monitoring and other operational tools to support hybrid cloud platform.
- Engage in cross-functional efforts with key stake-holders from: Product, Engineering, Media and Operations.
- Communication and evangelization of capacity planning and performance monitoring technologies to internal and external partners.
- Ability and desire to write detailed engineering documentation, such as Engineering Design Documents, Test Plans and Installation procedures.
Essential Job Requirements:
- Experience with Operating Systems, Virtualization, Storage, Control Plane, Monitoring and other cloud technologies.
- Must include strong linux administration ability.
- Experience with Cisco UCS life-cycle management. Ability to evaluate and test firmware updates against drivers, operating systems, and external services to ensure smooth and non-disruptive upgrades.
- Should have extensive background with monitoring tools such as Nagios, Splunk, ELK or similar technologies
- Must include experience with VMware vRealize Operations
- Proven experience managing internal and external resources, and working with vendors in a professional manner
- Excellent analytical & presentation skills, both written and verbal, to executive level audience.
- Experience with infrastructure orchestration and configuration management tools such as VMware Configuration Manager, puppet or chef is essential
- Knowledge of OpenStack, Kubernetes, and Docker containers highly desirable.
Preferred Job Requirements:
- Experience with AWS, Rackspace, or other public cloud provider building and deploying applications is desirable.
- Programming/Scripting experience, ideally java or javascript
