CLS Generic Position Summary

As a member of the professional staff, contributes general knowledge and skill in a discipline area (e.g. Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, Information Resources, Operations Planning & Support, Sales & Marketing) to support team and/or department objectives. Generally, works under close supervision or within well-established guidelines to complete routine tasks.


Specific Job Summary

Performs project accounting duties for assigned projects. Accountable for project accounting of assigned projects with moderate complexity/financial risk.

  • Performs the following types of basic tasks: billing, receivables, payables and report generation.
  • Responds to, solves and makes decisions on standard/routine business requests with limited risk.

    • utilizing technical knowledge and skills to enhance business processes.

  • Performs other duties as appropriate.


Specific Expected Contributions
  1. Complete accurate and timely project set-up in the financial systems (PeopleSoft).
  2. Monitor and review project costs for accuracy and make applicable adjusting entries.
  3. Ensure projects are billed in a timely and accurate manner in accordance with owner/contractual requirements.
  4. Monitor problem accounts receivable items including past due problem accounts; escalate to appropriate level for resolution.
  5. Review applicable sales tax rates and basis to ensure taxes are accrued and paid in accordance with state regulations, when necessary.
  6. Prepare and issue timely and accurate project status reporting to management on a periodic basis. Complete timely and accurate project closeout activities in conjunction with Project Management in accordance with owner and contractual requirements.
  7. Serve as backup for accounts payable processing of invoices.
  8. May include limited interaction with owners and other project/department management on non-customized projects.
  9. May compile and review account reconciliations for accuracy, and resolve reconciliation issues for assigned projects.
  10. Support Manager in process improvement opportunities to drive consistent tools and processes by using technology.
  11. Recommend areas in which processes may be optimized and/or improves
  12. Requires moderate supervision and coaching.

Successful candidates should possess knowledge and experience, and demonstrate strong leadership and relationship skills as follows:

Usually a professional position with general knowledge in a discipline (i.e., Accounting, Human Resources, Information Resources). College degree and/or related experience typically required.

Specific Candidate Profile

Education/Experience
  • Bachelor Degree required (Accounting/ Finance major a plus)
  • Minimum 2-3 years of professional experience


Key Skills
  • Excellent PC skills: proficient in Microsoft Office products
  • PeopleSoft software experience preferred
  • Knowledge of accounting and auditing principles required (GAAP)
  • Strong interpersonal and oral/written communications skills required
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work independently
  • Knowledge of contracting, construction/ design industry, project management and consulting agreements preferred
