Description:The Educator 2 workscollaboratively with the System Clinical Education Department to create andfacilitate clinical education curriculums including, but not limited to\:competence initiatives and professional development activities to support bothnursing and clinical practice across KentuckyOne Health, improving the qualityof patient care and nursing practice with resultant improved patient outcomes.  This Educator 2 is responsive to evolvingeducational needs across the system. This educator serves as a clinical expert, proficient educator,consultant, researcher, change agent, leader and interdisciplinary collaboratorin specific area of responsibility across KentuckyOne Health.  This Educator 2 identifies, develops anddelivers educational programs for both individuals and groups in both clinical,classroom, and virtual settings.  TheEducator 2 fosters empowerment of clinical staff by providing clinical instructionand support to assure clinical competency of staff and safe, effective deliveryof patient care, incorporating evidence based practice (EBP), nursing research,and appropriate skill set standards and recommended practices.  This Educator 2 actively participates inquality improvement (QI), EBP, and nursing research processes across thesystem.  The position supports corebehaviors, standards, values, and missions of KentuckyOne Health, accreditingbodies, and the profession of Nursing as a professional role model.  The Educator 2 also serves as a resource tothe community by promoting community outreach, healthcare awareness, andeducational opportunities.  The Educator2 works with area Schools of Nursing to facilitate academic practicepartnerships and to support nursing clinical rotations at KentuckyOne Healthfacilities across the system.


ClinicalExpert

o   Serves as a role model to Nursing Staff in thedelivery of excellent patient care for designated patient populations

o   Collaborates with Nursing and interdisciplinarycolleagues to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate strategies to addresscomplex patient care issues.

o   Assists staff with clinical decision making andpriority setting

o   Collaborates with Clinical Leadership to develop,evaluate, and implement standards of patient care /care planning andprofessional practice with attention to quality, service, cost effectiveness,comfort, safety, age specific implications, and cultural competence

o   Serves as a patient /family advocate, incorporatingrespect for and acknowledgement of cultural diversity and individual patientneeds

o   Maintains and integrates current evidenced-basedknowledge into educational programming

Promotes anenvironment consistent with the core concepts of Patient and Family CenteredCare, and demonstration of the core values.

     Educator

o   Facilitates the ongoing education and professionaldevelopment of the nursing staff and students

o   Coordinates orientation of newly hired nursingdepartment employees to the organization

  • Plans, prepares, and maintains materials for use in competency based educational programs, utilizing current standards, regulations, and validated evidenced based research
  • Plans and coordinates in-services, orientation, and educational programs for clinical staff to meet competency requirements in accordance with departmental objectives and appropriate accreditation standards
  • Collaborates in the development or modification of patient education materials as appropriate
  • Coordinates learning needs assessments for clinical staff and develops programs and competency strategies to address identified learning needs, 
  • Incorporates principles of adult learning in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of education and competency programs
  • Collaborates and incorporates learning technologies via simulation, LMS, virtual classroom, and multimedia
  • Communicates effectively in visual, oral, and written form and demonstrates effective presentation skills
  • Assists in the fiscal and administrative operations through cost effective use of resources, analysis of ROI, and participation in revenue generating activities for the department and the organization
  • Facilitates initial provider and renewal courses for BLS, ALS, NRP, PALS, including HeartCode administration
  • Cooperates in the facilitation of departmental orientation and conducts a variety of in-service, orientation, and educational programs for clinical staff to meet competency assessment requirements in accordance with departmental objectives and accreditation standards,  including yet necessarily limited to\: Orientation; Initial and Ongoing Competencies; Core Curriculum; Required Certification Courses, Professional Development and  Preceptor/Clinical Coach Programs

Consultant/Interdisciplinary Collaborator/Facilitator

  • Serves as an educational consultant and/or facilitator to outside institutions as well as hospital committees, task forces, and projects
  • Maintains involvement in professional, community, and clinical specialty activities
  • Serves as a consultant to clinical staff, physicians, administration, Nursing school programs, and the public for clinical education and the clinical nursing care of hospitalized patients
  • Role models customer service
  • Collaborates and supports clinical student rotations

Researcher

o  Expands the scientific base of nursing practice byinitiating and/or participating in continuous quality improvement and evidencebased practice activities and/or research studies

o  Critically analyzes current nursing research methodsand outcomes for inclusion in the curriculum content of education to supportpatient care

o  Incorporates current research findings intoeducational activities

o  Supports and demonstrates validated evidence basedpractice

o  Disseminates research findings though clinicalpresentations and publications

Qualification:

Education /Accreditation / Licensure (required & preferred)\:

Required\:

Unrestricted RN license in the state of Kentucky

BSN

Master’s Degree in Nursing, Education, Leadership or otherhealth related field or enrolled in an accredited program at the time of hire

National Certification in either clinical specialty orprofessional development at time of hire. (ANPD or Clinical Educationcertification required within 1 year of establishing eligibility.)

Previous experience ineducation and teaching

Previous experience in learningtechnologies, adult learning theory, program planning and management,competency assessment, project management, promoting and supporting changeinitiatives and formulation and evaluation of learning transfer.
