Our Medical/Surgical Units at St. Anthony Hospital have 32 beds per floor.  Our 4th floor has 32 beds for to care for our medical patients, infection diseases, pulmonary, GI, non-invasive treatments and lots of other diagnoses.  All rooms are private with their own restrooms, supply cabinets as well as couches and privacy curtains for the comfort of family who wish to stay close.  We have two rooms fully plumed to handle dialysis patients.  Computers are also located in each patient room to facilitate bedside documentation and medication verification.  We utilize Epic as our electronic health record.

We support a culture of collaboration and team work to help each other grow.  Our Nurses collaboratively round with our Hospitalists to develop, understand and support goals of care.   They foster a culture of team work where everyone pitches in to help out.  Nurses take pride in quality improvements and performing at the top of their licensure/profession.  We have a strong unit based council made up of front line staff that works together to identify areas of improvement and implement change.  Everyone works together to ensure the best quality and patient care.

Staffing

The management structure of the unit consists of an experienced Clinical Manager and a Clinical Coordinator who work together to oversee the unit.  The Charge Nurses provide additional clinical support for the staff and help to maintain the flow of the unit.  The staff is comprised of RNs and Care Assistants with support services provided by Respiratory Care, 24 hour Pharmacists, PT/OT, IV Therapy RNs, Dieticians and RN Care Managers.  RN assignments are determined by patient census and acuity and our normal RN ratios are 1\:5 with CNA support.

Orientation

All RN's complete a centralized hospital and nursing orientation in addition to a unit-based orientation which is structured to fit the needs of the RN's individual level of experience.  In additional to a clinical, preceptor-based bedside orientation, RNs attend didactic classes that are specific to their unit.

Job Summary

This job is responsible for providing a wide variety of professional nursing services which focus on the provision of quality patient care consistent with CHI-Franciscan standards/values, applicable regulatory requirements and scope of practice for the nursing profession.  Work also includes developing, implementing and assessing the patient plan of care during time of stay in collaboration with physicians, interdisciplinary teams, and the patient/family. 

Qualification:

Minimum Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred

• Previous Medical/Surgical experience is preferred.  New graduates are also considered for residency positions.

• Current RN license from the Washington State Board of Nursing

• Current Healthcare BLS Certification
