JOB SUMMARY
Under limited supervision, responsible for engineering activities that maintain and enhance the company's advanced video and signal processing hardware, software and electrical systems. Designs, implements, monitors, enhances and troubleshoots systems in assigned areas. Works closely with Headend operations staff on system design and configuration.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Actively and consistently support all efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience
Advanced configuration and support of advanced video equipment (e.g. VOD, controllers, multiplexing, digital transport, edge QAM).
Work with Engineering to design and test system designs.
Develop, design and implement electronic systems including audio, video and other multimedia equipment.
Analyze and evaluate new or improved electronic components.
Identify, resolve and escalate as required operational and design issues through data analysis and recommend solutions to make systems more efficient.
Work with the field on the implementation of network related projects and other standardization efforts.
Work with vendors and Engineering to resolve issues and design flaws.
Perform detailed problem diagnosis, track and update problems in trouble ticketing system.
Develop problem resolution procedures required to meet serviceability requirements.
Function as lead level and provide technical guidance and assistance to other support teams across enterprise.
Provide mentoring to associated staff as needed.
Perform other duties as requested by supervisor.
Adhere to industry specific local, state, and federal regulations, as applicable.
Know, understand and follow company policies.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Skills/Abilities and Knowledge
Ability to read, write and speak the English language to communicate with employees, customers, suppliers, in person, on the phone, and by written communications in a clear, straight-forward, and professional manner
Ability to isolate and troubleshoot failed equipment, facility issues and other network components
Ability to make decisions and solve problems while working under pressure
Ability to work with others to resolve problems, handle requests or situations
Knowledge and understanding of video, data and voice communications networks, IP networking
Advanced IP networking knowledge, TCP/IP protocols, Routing, Switching, Routing protocols, ISIS, EIGRP, BGP, OSPF MPLS, TCP/IP protocols, SNMP, ARP etc.
Advanced knowledge of UNIX and UNIX tools
Advanced Knowledge of Motorola (DAC) and/or CISCO (DNCS) video delivery systems
Advanced Knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word
Advanced Knowledge of Microsoft Visio or equivalent design software
Education
Bachelor’s Degree in related field or equivalent work experience
Industry and vendor specific certifications and training (NCTI, SCTE, BCT/E)
Related Work Experience
5+ years of video networking technologies experience
Experience with IP and MPEG Protocol Analyzers
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Skills/Abilities and Knowledge
Ability to write scripts
Knowledge of company products, services, and NOC procedures
Knowledge of network and element management systems
Cisco CNNA or equivalent certification or networking familiarity
Education
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, Engineering or equivalent technical field or work experience
Related Work Experience
Experience with project management
