Job Summary

 

We are seeking full-time Production Laborers to work in our Indianapolis plant. This position requires that glass be moved from one position/location to another in an effort to expedite the product throughout the plant.  Primary duties are to efficiently load/unload glass, inspect outgoing material for quality, and properly sorting glass to the appropriate racks. You will have the opportunity to work in Cutting, Tempering, or Insulating. We are looking for hard workers who want to grow and develop with us. Three shifts available with daily or weekend overtime as dictated by the production schedule.   

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • On/off-load glass product from, tables, rolling racks, delivery trucks, or wood crates
  • Transport materials including glass from one position/location to another
  • Read and attach appropriate labels and tags to products and packages
  • Operate equipment, and/or manually maneuver equipment
  • Understand layout of the facility to ensure proper product flow
  • Quality inspection of product for any abnormalities and log results
  • Utilize a tape measure to ensure product is within the product specifications
  • Maintain a safe and clean work area
  • Regular and predictable attendance including overtime
  • Safely perform tasks and adherence to all safety policies and procedures
  • All production workers are expected to be available to work in all areas of production 
  • All other duties as assigned by supervisor
  • Regular and predictable attendance, the ability to safely perform tasks, and adherence to all safety policies and procedures are essential functions of your job

 

Requirements

 

To be considered for a General Production Laborer position, the following conditions must be met:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required
  • At least two (2) years of previous work experience in a warehouse, manufacturing, or production facility, required
  • Must be able to perform general math, read measurements, and effectively use a tape measure
  • Ability to read, understand, and communicate paperwork and labels
  • Must work well in a team environment and have strong communication skills
  • Ability to read and interpret basic mathematical measurements
  • Must be able to work overtime as needed
  • Be willing to work overtime as required
  • Previous glass experience highly desirable

 

Physical Requirements

 

  • Must be physically capable of routinely lifting up to 75 lbs. and product of greater weight with moving aids and/or support help throughout the day.
  • Frequent bending and twisting
  • Occasional kneeling/crawling, climbing, squatting, typing
  • Ability to stand on concrete for the entire shift steel toe shoes with metatarsal guards
  • Ability to work in varied temperatures consistent with same climate conditions of the region (Heat, humidity, etc.).

Equipment

 

Dolly, crane, pallet jack, glass cups, glass sheet pull tool, tape measure, pliers, glass cutter, and other various tools

 

Safety

 

  • Hazards - Exposure to chemicals/fumes, pinch points, exposure to excessive noise, strain/sprain, laceration/puncture, particulate exposure, contusion, operation of foot controls, slipping, burns, shock, loss of limbs, elevated temperatures during summer months
  • Controls - Personal protective equipment, safety training, written procedures
  • Safety Equipment - Safety glasses, steel toe shoes with metatarsal guards, cut resistant gloves with liners, cut resistant outerwear, leather chaps, wrist guards, hard hat, and hearing protection

 

Work Environment

 

  • Work performed inside a production environment
  • Noise levels in the work environment can be moderate to high
  • The plant facility is subject to the same climate conditions of the region (heat, cold, humidity, etc.)
  • Chemicals, dust, pollen, and other typical airborne particulate matter are present within the atmosphere of the production floor and may create some odors in the plant. The Company, in an effort to provide its employees with a safe and healthy working environment, limits exposure to chemicals through written procedures, engineering controls and PPE
  • While some chemicals may pose health risks if not properly used, employees are trained on the proper safety equipment and procedures for handling chemicals
  • While the chemical exposure and odors are under acceptable levels set by OSHA and the WCB, they nevertheless, can be smelled and are handled according to the company’s hazardous communication program
