Our client, a 4th generation, family-owned leader in the food manufacturing industry, is seeking a dynamic individual for a DIRECT HIRE for a BUYER/MATERIAL PLANNER. The ideally qualified candidate will be a motivated self-starter who has exceptional attention to detail. Prior experience is highly desired. Schedule Monday - Friday.

The Buyer/Material Planner is responsible for ingredient purchasing for the plant. This includes and is not limited to long term capacity planning, daily/weekly production schedule extension, as well as developing urgent change plans based on available materials for production at the plant.


Responsibilities:

  • Review material demand reports and prepare purchase orders
  • Purchase the highest quality merchandise from established supplier list
  • Maintain and review computerized or manual records of items purchased, costs, deliveries, product performance, and inventories
  • Review product specifications, maintaining a working technical knowledge of the goods to be purchased
  • Evaluate and monitor contract performance to ensure compliance with contractual obligations and to determine need for changes
  • Follow-up, expedite, delay or modify these orders as needed based upon inventory levels and scheduling changes
  • Communicate with Vendors any changes, issues, or concerns
  • Handle claims with Vendors for damaged or defective raw materials and packaging in a timely manner
  • Follow orders from purchasing to invoice approval, tracking and documenting the entire process
  • Works across the organization and partners directly with Operations and Quality
  • Develops cost savings scenarios, articulates key decisions and recommendations to Supply Chain Leadership team highlighting service, inventory and cost tradeoffs
  • Analyzes historical and forecasted usage to recommend annual contract volumes and negotiates contracts
  • Owns Slow Moving and Obsolete visibility throughout the entire process, working with the warehouse and quality to identify and execute run out strategies.
  • Leads continuous improvement projects for purchasing.
  • Manages assigned ingredients throughout the entire supply chain and communicates risks or disruptions to Supply Chain leadership team.
  • Manages inventory for ingredients to achieve established targets.
  • Monitors Days Forward Cover and Weeks of Supply levels working together with Logistics to ensure that inventory is available to support production.
  • Works with R&D & Quality, to identify and approve new vendors
  • Prepares for and leads the discussion in the Daily Tactical Meetings for assigned materials


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain, Operations Management, or Business required with related work experience or internships in food manufacturing OR equivalent years of experience
  • Experience in food manufacturing is highly preferred, but will also consider manufacturing experience in other consumer packaged goods industries
  • Excellent communication, facilitation and presentation skills
  • Ability to work effectively and creatively in a fast paced environment
  • Previous experience with MRP systems is preferred
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Detail orientated, organized, reliable, resourceful with a relentless focus on outcomes
  • Ability to work independently, multi-task and prioritize under pressure
  • Solid leadership and communication skills concentrated on data gathering, meeting facilitation and data dissemination
  • Manage buying tasks using Excel, ERP, and reporting
  • Good organizational skills and the ability to prioritize workload
  • Business or Operations experience, with solid quantitative skills
