Manager, Indirect Taxes

Key Responsibilities:

•  Tax Compliance

1.  Manage the preparation and filing of all non-income based tax returns: Sales and use tax, Personal property tax, Beer and liquor taxes, Certain annual filing fees
2. Remain current on state and local tax legislation, changes to compliance requirements, filing deadlines, etc. to avoid potential costly penalties. Develop implementation plans to ensure compliance with changing regulations.
3. Monitor changes in sales tax rates and ensure updated rates are communicated and implemented appropriately.
4. Develop and maintain a matrix of all tax filings.

• Tax Research

1. Research state and local tax compliance requirements when entering new jurisdictions.
2. Ensure appropriate registrations and initial internal set-up is performed (applying for EINs, obtaining sales tax certificates, configuration of POS system, etc.).
3. Prepare and monitor registrations for new or changed locations.
4. Create in-house documentation supporting state-specific tax rules per location.

• Tax Examinations
  
  1. Manage non-income based tax examinations initiated by local taxing authorities.
  2. Investigate and resolve jurisdictional tax notices.
  3. Identify any potential compliance exposure and implement proactive processes to reduce tax exposure.

Skills & Knowledge:

• Strong knowledge of state and local sales and use tax laws.
• Ability to work under pressure and within tight deadlines.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Innovative team player. Self-motivated and able to work on cross-functional teams.
• Ability to organize, prioritize and multi-task responsibilities.
• Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills.

Education & Experience:

• Minimum 7+ years of relevant indirect tax experience.
• Experience in the restaurant and/or retail industries a plus.
• BS/BA in Accounting required.
