Position Overview:

The Mechanical Engineer will be primarily involved in developing and producing Designs, Drawings and Bills of Materials for material handling equipment. They need to be an expert in 3D modeling so they can have full understanding of how a drawing and drawing package needs to be put together, much less how a product is created. The following is what the engineer will be doing on a day-to-day basis so this person will have to be able to do all of it in order to be successful in this role.

The engineers on the team will calculate application loads and stresses on parts and assemblies. The engineer will also calculate power requirements for moving equipment. Based on these calculations, the engineer will design parts and select components (ie. electric motors, gearboxes, chains, belts, sprockets, etc.) as required for the application. The engineer will familiarize themselves with manufacturing operations and methods in order to incorporate best practices of Design for Manufacturing. The engineer will support manufacturing operations and continuous improvement processes. Additional duties may include creation of drawing and documentation packages for production.

Work Environment:

This person will be designing in an office setting, working with a team of designers and project engineers. They will be one of 12 people in the technical group and the dress is casual.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience writing processes or procedures
    (10) years of related machine or material handling equipment design (experience with belt conveyors a plus).
  • Experience with linear and rotating equipment
  • Expert using 3D modeling software
