Purpose:

The Manager, Sales Engineering - Field Sales position is a sales management role within our Business Class commercial sales team. Individuals in this position are responsible for managing a team of Sales Engineers focused on pre-sales and post-sales technical consulting activities. The Sales Engineering Team is responsible for supporting a team of account executives in the development of network solutions for prospective clients.


Key Responsibilities:

•Responsible for the planning, directing and day-to-day management of the Sales Engineering Team.

•Responsible for partnering with Business Class sales teams to achieve monthly team revenue quotas in data, phone and video sales

•Designs voice and data network solutions for customer applications, including preparation of network topologies and technical specifications, serving as the expert for the Sales Engineering Team.

•Translates approved sales priorities into sales plans, consulting tactics and programs for the Sales Engineering team

•Prepares regular sales activities reporting for presentation to senior management

•Coordinates work flows between supporting teams and departments.

•Works in conjunction with business services support personnel, including sales support and marketing personnel.

•Serves as a company PR liaison at industry, community and vertical market events

•Attends all sales meetings and training sessions as required by management.


Leadership Skills:

•Responsible for managing a team of Sales Engineers focused on pre-sales and post-sales technical consulting activities.

•Must be able to coach and develop all Sales Engineers to ensure that all employees meet or exceed standards of job performance

•Responsible for the planning, directing and day-to-day management of the Sales Engineering Team.

•Oversees team personnel activities concerning hiring, training/development, sales performance evaluation and technical consulting performance objectives

•Insures consistency and accuracy by all team members of sales/consulting databases that are necessary to report sales activity and customer information

•Enforces all department and company policies and practices to insure sales process integrity

•Conducts weekly team meetings to review sales team performance to defined goals


Qualifications/Skill Set:

*Internals must be in their role more than 12 months to be eligible to apply

•Position requires a proven track record of success in managing a quota based sales team

•Must be an effective communicator that can direct and motivate a sales organization to successful goal attainment

•Strong knowledge of general industry networking technologies such as TCP/IP, IP VPN, MPLS, VPLS, Ethernet, VoIP, SONET, DWDM

•Familiar with various networking fundamentals related to routers, switches, LAN, MAN, WAN, DS3, OC-x, CSU/DSU and other CPE

•Consultative approach to providing customer solutions and design with strong knowledge of converged multimedia applications

•Extensive voice networking experience with emphasis on VoIP, signaling protocols and PBS

•Extensive experience with routing protocols such as BGP, ISIS, OSPF, RIP as well as knowledge of emerging technologies

•Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills required

•Strong analytical and negotiation skills required


Education and Experience:

•Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university preferred; or equivalent training, education and experience.

•Seven to ten years experience in a fast paced sales environment required.

•Requires three or more years of sales management experience, preferably managing sales engineering teams selling data, voice and/or video solutions in the commercial telecommunications market.

•CCNA, CCDA, CCNP, CCDP certification preferred
