This role is responsible for the development and operations of HealthCare BI applications that consist of data visualizations and reporting for Optum’s Advanced Analytics Lab.  These applications are focused on investigating key business problems through quantitative analyses of utilization and healthcare costs data to provide statistical findings and conclusions.
 
The candidate is required to have strong Healthcare claims data, data visualization, and relational database knowledge.  They must have the underlying SQL and DDL experience to make visualizations perform well.  The position will be accountable to lead team’s working within an Agile system development methodology to deliver on time with quality.  We require a self-starter who can work in a virtual environment and likes to have fun while performing at a high level for our customers.   
 
Primary Responsibilities:


Prioritize general objectives into defined projects and establish scope, timeline, and resources to successfully meet commitments

Act as the liaison between Business Stakeholders, Developers, Infrastructure teams and project management groups

Maintain awareness of current technology assets, and the applicability and capability of each

Gather functional and non-functional client requirements in order to optimize the design of BI deliverables (reports, dashboards, alerts, visualizations) that are within our applications

Analyze data requirements, application and processing architectures, data dictionaries and database schemas while designing, developing, amending, optimizing and certifying database designs to satisfy client needs

Create HealthCare data visualizations that leverage all features of Tableau (Parameters, Filters, Advanced Charts, Data Connections, Actions, Dashboards, etc.).  These visualizations present data in order to distinguish patterns and recognize trends. They assist others in understanding data by presenting complex patterns in the form of easily deciphered charts and graphs

Develop rich interactive graphics and data visualizations of large structured data in browser-friendly formats using best practices (Whitespace, number of dashboard objects, tabbing, color schemes, etc.)

Create ETL/ELT to translate and structure data into a model that makes visualizations render in less than 2 seconds

Create custom SQL to query complex data models in the most effective way for the database and the application server

Fine-tune and improved query performance using profiling tools and SQL

Troubleshoot issues, including but not limited to, determining what level the issue resides in, the atomic level, in transformations, at the aggregation level, etc.

Manage application defect processes.  

Requirements

Required Qualifications:

4 year degree (Information Systems, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Healthcare Informatics, or related degree)
5+ years of experience developing highly visual Business Intelligence solutions (Tableau, Qlik, Microstrategy, Birst, D3.js) and/or applications (preferably visualizations based on advanced statistics)
5+ years of experience with advanced SQL programming skills with ability to write programs against two or more of the following DBMS: Netezza, Teradata, SQL Server, DB2, or Oracle
3+ years of experience in Healthcare (mid to large scale, 100+) working with claim data.
3+ years working within an Agile Software Development methodology in a lead role.
1+ years of database development experience creating DDL/ELT (aggregate tables, views, loading data, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of statistical concepts (EDA, multivariate analysis, regression, outliers, etc.)
Working with very large data sets (billions of rows)
Hadoop experience
