The Associate Director, Actuarial Services within Optum supports the UHC Medicare and Retirement and UHC Community and State segments on critical  process and/or design changes to the Risk Adjustment Financial consulting offerings.  In particular, this role will consult  on matters related to financial forecasting, valuation, CMS regulatory initiatives including EDS/EDPS,  and Risk Adjustment Model Changes, as well as Stars/Quality.  This position is also responsible for high volume client reports and program support.

Responsibilities may include but will not be limited to:

Mentoring and developing an elite team and helping them create unique solutions to complex problems
Developing models to forecast revenue and demonstrating the value of Medicare Advantage (MA) Risk Adjustment services
Understanding and interpreting key drivers of program and risk  factor trends
Understanding and effectively applying changes in CMS payment structure for MA clients
Leading actuarial analysis, trend projections and financial services in support of Medicare Advantage clients,
Translating highly complex concepts in ways that can be understood by a variety of audiences including senior leaders
Performing mathematical analyses and actuarial modeling that provides management with statistical findings and conclusions
Calculating reserves

Requirements

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Math, Finance, Economics or related degree
ASA or FSA designation is required
8+ years of experience in a healthcare actuarial role including experience with Medicare Advantage bid development and risk adjustment
2+ years of experience managing a staff and leading a team in complex actuarial projects that have a large financial and/or risk impact
Preferred:

Master’s Degree
Experience as an Actuarial Consultant and/or previous experience at a Consulting company. Strong financial background preferred
Experience working in the health care industry - At least a basic level of proficiency with SAS (Statistical Analysis System) and/or SQL (Structured Query Language
