About this job

Looking for laborers to work in our Saw Mill “Stacking Lumber”.

Must be physically fit. Own transportation required.

Work hours: Monday thru Friday starting at 6:00 a.m.–10 hour days except Friday

Pay is $13.00/hour

You will be instructed to stack wood per the facilities requirements.

Description of how to stack lumber:  The lumber will be stacked on as flat of ground as possible, and the ground will be covered by plastic, tarp or plywood for proper stabilization of the stack. Each stack of wood is required to be at least 1” to 2” (this is a better height) above the ground. You can use railroad ties and concrete blocks, among other items that are square and will allow to get to this height. You must have your base level and even with each other, as the flatter you can make it the straighter your lumber will be. Must have lots of sticker sticks available for the spacing between each course of lumber for cross supports. These are 1” x 2” dry lumber sticks. Lay a first row of stickers on top of the cross supports, then lay a course of lumber on these sticks. The lumber should be separated by at least a 1” gap between each piece, and repeat process of stacking each course of lumber. You can stack as high as you are comfortable with. 5ft is about as high as you should go, 4ft high is better. The stack can also be as wide as the base supports. The last thing to do is to cover the stack of lumber with plywood, tin roofing etc. and weight this cover down with concrete blocks, old steel or anything with weight to it. This keeps all lumber flat for the drying process that is on the top layer and helps with warping.
