ThePatient Care Assistant provides clinical patient care support in a caring,safe, and efficient manner, under the supervision and delegation of theRegistered Nurse. In collaboration with patients and families (as defined bythe patient) the Clinical Assistant is responsible for the care of the patient.The Patient Care Assistant adheres to and is supportive of the hospital and thedepartment of Nursing mission and philosophy.

ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS:

Delivers successful service to our internaland external customers by adhering to critical success standards: demonstratingaccountability and commitment to quality and safety standards; providingexceptional customer service; and exerting effort to insure a positive workenvironment that demonstrates dedication to the hospital's mission, vision andvalues

Performs delegated and ancillary basicnursing skills, including activities of daily living, monitoring of patientcondition, body mechanics, providing nutritional support and other activitiesas appropriate to clinical service, in accordance with hospital standards,nursing standards of care, and policies and procedures.

May perform skills, within scope of practicefor unlicensed assistive personnel. These skills include, but are not limited to, the collection ofspecimens, use of specialized equipment, restraint monitoring and patientelimination procedures. Communicatesperformance of these skills to the patient's Registered Nurse and other membersof the healthcare team.

Performs functional assignments per unitstandards of care, including such activities as patient admission and dischargeprocedures, unit environmental organizational tasks, and others as appropriateto service.

Performs and documents point-of-care testing,patient mobility and exercise, comfort, rest, sleep and care needs, patienthygiene, grooming, dressing, skincare, dietary, toileting and eliminationneeds.

Assists with transport.

Performs clerical duties; use of a faxmachine, computers, medical transcription, and Xerox machines may be required.

Assists other members of the nursing careteam and/or other disciplines.

Demonstrates appropriate emergency and patientsafety procedures, including management of safety devices and equipment. Maintains a safe, comfortable and therapeuticenvironment for patients/families in accordance with hospital standards.

Participates in training, development andcontinuing education activities to improve role functioning.

Responsible for knowing and demonstratingNational Patient Safety standards. Participates in department-based activities and initiatives to improveand ensure a safe environment.

Participates in performance improvementactivities; quality improvement and patient safety activities; assists inmaintaining compliance with Joint Commission accreditation and other internaland external regulatory standards including the code of conduct.

Communicates effectively with members of thehealth care team, patients and families, often under stress or emergencysituations.

Performsother duties as assigned.

Education /Accreditation / Licensure (required & preferred):

HighSchool Graduate or equivalent, completion of a recognized Clinical Assistant.Medical Assistant or EMT Training Program Preferred or Nursing Studentswho have completed Fundamentals of Nursing Course from an accredited school ofnursing.

CPRwith the American Heart Association required.

Experience(required and preferred):

One of the following is required: 2 yearsexperience within a healthcare setting, Certification as a Nursing Assistant(C.N.A), Certified Medical Assistant (C.M.A) or Emergency Medical Technician(EMT) preferred, if licensed must be current and in good standingwith state licensing board, or be enrolled in an accredited school of nursingwith completion of Fundamentals of Nursing Course. LPNs may apply.

* For those hired after November 14, 2016, KentuckyOne Healthwill verify education required by the position, through primary sourceverification, prior to beginning employment. Education verification will alsoinclude the collection of a high school diploma or equivalent, transcript, orother written validation of education.
