This position is part of the senior leadership team overseeing Optum's Payment Integrity Analytics for the Commercial segment and is a direct report of the leader of the business.
Â
This position will bring together analytic thought leadership and a deep knowledge of the health care industry to the development of game changing analytics for the detection, prevention and recovery of aberrant claims in the Commercial market. Responsibilities include leading a team of analytic professionals (Business Analysts and Data Analysts) in the development of innovative analytics that significantly reduce health care administrative costs.

Primary Responsibilities:
Analytic Strategic Planning: Responsible for significant contributions to the development of the strategic direction for our Commercial payment integrity analytics business in partnership with: The Data Sciences team and Payment Integrity Commercial Operations leadership
Capability Organizational Structure: Understand and engage in the reinforcement the Payment Integrity Analytic organization capability model (FWAE, DM, COB, Rules, Predictive Models)
Analytic Industry Thought Leader: Participate in analytic industry forums to garner greater insight into market influences and client needs
Establish business cadence (weekly, monthly, quarterly analytic reviews) to ensure Analytic results are met and exceeded and to drive higher levels of performance
Analytic Metrics: Own development, distribution and communication of Analytic metrics requested by our clients and partners
Ensure Analytic metrics are used to continuously improve analytics
Training and Quality: Ensure relevant and continuous training and quality programs are established to educate internal staff to produce desired outcomes
Leadership Development: Provide coaching and leadership development to both on and offshore
Client Relationships: Develop excellent working relationship with Commercial clients, both at the executive and daily execution levels. Drive plans to exceed client expectations and delight our clients
Partner with Commercial Business Unit leaders to design analytical strategies that enhance their Fraud detection capabilities and recovery efforts. This could take the form of supervised and unsupervised models, cluster analysis, etc.
Partner effectively with Commercial business leaders and finance to demonstrate the effectiveness and impact of the analytical tools developed to support efforts to win new business
Oversee process to aid in the implementation of predictive models in the hardware/software supported by the business unit
Train business partners on how to most effectively incorporate analytic results into their work flow process
Bring these capabilities to Optum Commercial customers across markets: Government and Commercial
Data analytic responsibilities include sample design, data prep, identification of appropriate analytic and statistical methodology, model development and documentation of process and results
Leadership responsibilities include leadership of a team of data analysts and business analysts, recruiting and development of team members

Requirements
Required Qualifications:
Advanced degree (Master's or PhD in mathematics, epidemiology, (bio)statistics, psychology or related field Passion for health care analytics
10 + years of experience in the development of algorithms (aka rules or edits) with healthcare claims data
5+ years of experience bringing these analytic solutions to the marketÂ
Knowledge of statistics and sampling methods used in the evaluation of healthcare claims data
Ability to grasp analytical concepts and clearly understand how analytical solutions can help customers reduce their healthcare costs
Demonstrated experience in providing leadership to colleagues and senior management in innovative algorithm creation and deployment
Exceptional ability to drive results through strong collaborating and influencing skills across all business segments (UHC, Commercial, COB, FWAE, DM, Subrogation) and across geographies (US, Ireland, India)
Preferred Qualifications:
Strong problem solving skills, demonstrates initiative and creativity by originating new ideas, anticipating and implementing next steps
Must be self-managed, self-starter, able to work in rapidly changing environment
Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work with all levels of management across all functional areas, as well as, business partners in other UHG entities
