Sunrise Senior Living Design Department is seeking a Design Manager to work at our corporate office in McLean, VA.
RESPONSIBILITIES & QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Interior Design from accredited school
  • Must be proficient in AutoCAD
  • PeopleSoft skills preferable but not required
  • Proficiency in MS Office
  • NCIDQ certified strongly preferred
  • 5+ years industry experience ( Healthcare or Hospitality field preferred)

  • Ability to work under pressure of multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment while directing and managing workload of others to efficiently meet deadlines set for the department

  • Familiar with technical aspects and industry standards
  • Creativity to design and adhere to varying types of budgets
  • Ability to combine all selections to create cohesive designs when working in existing conditions
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task
  • Ability to work within the codes and compliance requirements of the healthcare regulations
  • Ability to balance and readjust priorities when needed to accomplish major objectives successfully
  • Thorough understanding of floor plans, how to produce furniture layouts and space planning within Sunrise signature standards
  • High level of accuracy in documents using Sunrise standard templates for construction drawings, including large scale projects requiring coordination with external vendors
  • High level of accuracy in documents using Sunrise standard templates for furniture, art, drapery, and accessory packages, including large scale projects requiring coordination with external vendors and internal field or corporate representatives
  • Thorough understanding of appropriate response and follow-through as required within an expeditious timeline for shop drawings and flooring, drapery, and art proposals received from external vendors
  • Demonstrates thorough understanding of proper communication required with the field, internal with Sunrise and external with vendors, contractors, etc.
  • Ability to complete special projects, standard production work, and review of other designers work while maintaining set deadlines
  • Ability to manage team to meet established deadlines, determine and manage daily and weekly tasks for oneself and team members as required to meet those deadlines
  • Ability to participate in required travel (throughout the US, Canada, and UK if needed) and assist in installation of products, construction management, or site assessments
  • Communicate clearly and effectively, with design team and those we design for at Sunrise Senior Living (architects, contractors, service providers, and residents)
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Learn and gain an understanding of floor plans, how to produce furniture layouts and space planning within Sunrise signature standards
  • Product selection to create and furnish the space including interior building finishes, furniture, accessories, drapery, lighting, art, and other interior elements
  • Create and review detailed furniture specifications and fabric/finish selections
  • Create detailed interior drawing sets; inclusive of (but not limited to) demo plans, new build plans, schedules and legends, elevations, furniture plans, specifications flooring plans, etc.
  • Compile details and specifications using of Excel and acrobat to create installation guides and design presentations using standard templates
  • Design within a budget for existing buildings needing supplemental design to their already existing environment
  • Data entry and approvals within our software systems for processing, and data entry into Microsoft programs for tracking and updating / sharing information for other team members
  • Managing reselections of product when necessary
  • Attend and participate in vendor meetings, department and team meetings
  • Design within the healthcare codes and laws while adhering to brand standards
  • Proper management, entry of data, and review of other’s data entry into budgets. Responsible for approvals of product cost in accordance with predetermined project budgets, and the proper adherence to that budget for all projects completed by team members.
  • Review of shop drawings and submittals by trades for accuracy to the design intent
  • Review fellow team members interior drawing sets for accuracy and proper implementation of expected scope of work.
  • Oversee design, internal production and implementation of designs through to installation, working with vendors and manufacturers to ensure completion on time and to level of expectation required of our vendors
  • Manage budgets and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Manage work flow for themselves and others on the team to ensure projects are being complete on time and in budget
  • Learn and work within the invoice management systems that Sunrise Senior Living uses for all orders
  • Ability to complete multiple special projects and/or production projects in addition to managing workload and production completed by team members to meet department deadlines
  • Direct liaison between CapEx Director and Designers as necessary to complete projects
  • Management and oversight of other Design I, Design II, and Senior Interior Designer positions aligned in a small team structure, including all HR responsibilities
  • Lead design team through all phases of interior projects including guiding, advising, and mentoring other designers on projects, developing design direction and leading design critiques/forums as appropriate.
Additional responsibilities may include
  • Site survey all properties when required for the following purposes:
  • Review scope of work and ensure proper understanding of plan for implementation
  • Performing quality control and ensure successful completion of the scope of work
  • Taking and preparing prepare photograph reports in high level of detail for distribution to the Sunrise Design team as needed
  • Reviewing and providing detail reports on interior construction and implementation of finish products according to design plan
  • Working closely with the operations team to resolve any and all interior design needs that arise due to regulator or compliance with codes and or brand standards as they arise during the year.
  • Working with new construction teams (both internal and external) to ensure quality and compliance with our Sunrise brand standards for interiors
  • Working closely with CapEx Directors to ensure proper flow of information to and from the design team(s)
  • Oversight and maintenance of the standard templates for the interior drawing sets
