Very exciting Aerospace company in San Diego and Los Angeles has an immediate need for a Quality Engineer. This is a long-term open ended contract opportunity with a national Aerospace company. Company is based out of San Diego, but the role will be managing suppliers in Orange County and LA.
Min of 5 years of Quality Engineering , Manufacturing engineering or Reliability/Producibility engineering with an aerospace manufacturing firm.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collect and evaluate supplier quality data to identify process improvement opportunities within the supply chain.
- Perform or lead root cause with the supplier directly to create containment and corrective action plans to address product and/or process failures. Communicate and instruct suppliers on the use of a corrective action process and quality tools & techniques.
- Review supplier manufacturing processes, collaborate with suppliers on process improvement and value enhancement opportunities.
- Regularly communicate with Engineering, Quality Engineering and Supply Chain internally to identify opportunities for quality and productivity improvement.
- Collect and maintain supplier performance metrics.
- Coordinate with Technical Support, Engineering, Manufacturing and Technical Support to ensure awareness to known purchased part or product quality issues.
- Review 1st article documentation to ensure compliance to PO requirements
- Regularly visit suppliers
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of 5 years experience in a Supplier Quality capacity highly desirable
- Experience in manufacturing process & procedures
- Strong blue print reading as well as strong GD&T understanding
- Strong knowledge of fabrication based quality control methods, tools and techniques.
- Understands and can use hand measuring tools
- Basic CNC and CMM background
- Has an analytic approach and critical thinking problem solving skills
- Strong data analysis, project management, an metric reporting skills
- Strong problem solving skills
- Strong interpersonal and customer interface skills
- Oral and written communication skills, including the ability to write technical reports and presentations
- Advanced knowledge of quality related tools including, but not limited to, Six Sigma, SPC, FMEA, Fault tree, 5Y, Fishbone, DOE and Quality Systems
- Ability to teach basic problem solving techniques and facilitate problem solving team events.
- Self-starter with the ability to quickly learn about new products or processes with very little information provided
- Lean Six Sigma training
