The Payless Assistant Store Leader (Assistant Manager) is a critical part of our Store Leadership Team. This role will be responsible for the following key areas:

· Store Profitability & Driving Sales

Drive and coach to the procedures and controls necessary to meet or exceed the sales, profit and shrink goals established for their Store.

· Excellent Customer Service

Consistently demonstrate Customer Service and selling techniques as an example for all Associates, through successful execution of the Customer Service model.

· Training and Coaching

Support Store Associates in their completion of the Store Associate Training Program. They must provide on-the-job training, coaching for store Associates and completion of coaching cards.

· Merchandise

Complete all of the merchandise processes and move shipment on to the sales floor. Stock and replenish product.

· POS Operation

Ensuring that cash is kept in the proper locations (e.g. safe, locked cash drawer, etc.,) and that it does not exceed predetermined maximum limits.

Counting Cash and preparing bank deposits and verify deposits against the records and ensuring Deposits are made in a timely manner.

· Administration

Complete Administrative tasks related to inventory control, opening/closing, deposit records and other documents maintained on paper or generated electronically on a backroom pc.

· Store Maintenance

Identify and report interior and exterior Store Maintenance issues to the Store Manager or District Manager to ensure a positive presentation to our customers.

· Respond to Emergencies

As a leader for the store location, the Assistant Store Leader must respond to emergencies (e.g. Associate doesn’t show up to open store, burglary, deposit needs to be made, etc.), They must be accessible for emergency contact.

Qualifications & Attributes:

· Demonstrated ability to work with people. Previous retail management experience is preferred but not required.

· Two (2) years college or two (2) years progressive supervisory experience. Four year college degree is preferred but not required.

· Ability to drive sales and customer focused mentality

· Willingness to relocate within the District or Region is preferred but not required.

· Successful completion of the Payless onboarding and training modules.

· Ability to read price tag information, Customer checks, Customer identification, and similar written materials.

· Ability to complete basic math functions (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) necessary to verify cash register balances, process refunds and returns, and coach or train Store Associates.

· Ability to lift or move goods weighing up to 40 pounds a distance of several feet.

· Ability to observe and respond to signs of shoplifting or dangerous behavior.

· Ability to hear and understand Customer and Associate inquiries and oral instruction from supervisors and emergency announcements.

· Sufficient manual dexterity to operate all registers, backroom computer and security equipment, package Customer purchases, and restock shelves with new merchandise at an average rate of 75 to 100 units per hour.

· Ability to grasp Store processes and functions, and make business decisions based on sales and profitability goals.

· Ability to perform or learn basic computer skills.
