Job Description:

Allied Universal Services seeks a full-time Armed Facility Protection Officer to work a state contract in Nashville. Schedule is Monday - Friday, 7 AM - 5 PM with a one-hour lunch break. Pay is $16.50/hr. Candidates MUST:
  • Possess a Tennessee armed security license (not pending);
  • Possess a CPR Certification;
  • Possess a handcuffing permit for the State of Tennessee;
  • Possess a pepper spray permit for the State of Tennessee;
  • Possess 1 - 2 years of armed security experience OR military/previous law enforcement experience;
  • Be able to qualify for the company's driving program which includes being at least 21 years of age, having a clean MVR for the past (3) years, and having a valid Driver's License;
  • Be able to pass a post-offer, pre-employment background check and drug test;
  • Be able to pass an additional, client-required background check;
  • Be able to operate modern technology, including smartphone, tablet, and/or computer.
The Professional Security Officer is the heart of Allied Universal Services. They are responsible for the safety and security of the facilities they protect. The armed security officer is a deterrent to criminal activity by remaining visible and presenting a neat and professional appearance in properly worn uniform and associated equipment.

The Armed Security Officer may be asked to perform many essential functions at the facility where they work, although not an exhaustive list, these are a few of them:
  • Ensures the facility is provided with high quality security services to protect people and property
  • Maintains proficiency in the use of all assigned protective equipment, restraint devices and weapons
  • Preserves order and acts to enforce regulations and directives for the site pertaining to personnel, visitors, and premises
  • Builds, improves and maintains effective relationships with both client employees and guests
  • Greets guests and employees in a cheerful and welcoming manner
  • Answers questions and assists guests and employees
  • Patrols the facility on foot or in a vehicle
  • Answers phones
  • Monitors closed circuit television systems and alarms
  • Reports safety concerns, security breaches and unusual circumstances both verbally and in writing
  • Handles security issues or emergency situations appropriately
  • Fully embraces security/safety training programs to enhance their ability to advance in their careers
  • Participates in industry specific security/safety training programs to offer our clients the best trained officers at their sites
  • Meets and continues to meet any applicable state, county and municipal licensing and permit requirements for Armed Security Officers and specific protective device and weapons qualifications
  • Works in environments and under conditions that require carrying authorized weapons and ammunition, the use of protective gear and devices, and awareness of personal safety and safety of others
  • Maintains awareness and familiarity with the site-specific operations performance manual and post orders
Physical and Mental Functions:
  • Stand or walk constantly (for up to an entire shift) on various surfaces (tile, concrete, carpet)
  • Climb stairs, ramps, or ladders occasionally during shift
  • Occasionally bend/twist at waist/knees/neck to perform various duties
  • Occasionally lift or carry up to 40 pounds
  • Run as needed
  • Constant use of both hands and arms in reaching/handling/grasping/fingering while using phone, notepad, writing reports, and other administrative tasks
  • Constant use of eyes (correctable vision to normal level required) to observe, read, interact with public and co-workers, view security monitors; includes hand/eye coordination
  • Work in various environments including adverse outdoor conditions such as cold, rain or heat;
  • Constant mental alertness and attention to detail required while setting priorities and following up on assignments
Qualifications/Requirements:

Qualified applicants for the Armed Professional Security Officer position will meet the minimum requirements, as described below:
  • At least 21 years of age
  • Must possess effective written and oral communication and interpersonal skills with ability to deal with all levels of personnel and the general public in a professional and effective manner; must be able to use initiative and independent judgment within established guidelines
  • Must be able to frequently prepare written reports and logs in neat, legible handwriting; may require computer skills
  • Must be able to read and understand all operating procedures and instructions
  • Must be able to obtain a valid Guard License and Armed Guard License as required in the state for which you are applying
  • As a condition of employment, employee must successfully complete a background investigation and a post-offer/pre-employment drug/alcohol test
  • As a condition of continued employment, employee must maintain current active status of all required License at all times, and must carry the license at all times while on duty
  • Must display exceptional customer service and communication skills
  • Remain flexible to ever changing environments; adapt well to different situations
  • Intermediate computer skills to utilize innovative, wireless technology at client specific sites
  • Ability to maintain satisfactory attendance and punctuality standard;
  • Neat and professional appearance
  • Ability to provide quality customer service
  • Ability to handle both common and crisis situations at the client site, calmly and efficiently
  • Read, understand and clearly speak English; constantly use speech and hearing (correctable to normal level required) in communicating with public/co-workers, giving and receiving instructions, using phones
  • Must be able to handle pressure of working with high volume general public (constantly to occasionally depending on assignment)
FPO Candidates must meet at least one of the below requirements to qualify for employment under this contract. Please select the one that applies and for which you can supply documented proof of compliance.
- Three (3) of the last five (5) years of armed contract security experience - Three (3) years of military or national Guard (active or reserve) experience - Successful completion of a State certified Law Enforcement Education and Training Course or Police Officer’s Standards Training (POST)
course.

2. FPO Candidates shall be a citizen of the United States of America, U.S. Territories, and/or Commonwealths. The State may approve current or former members of the U.S. military guard and reserves, or who possess an honorable discharge, who are lawful permanent residents.

3. FPO Candidates shall possess a Social Security Card issued by the Social Security Administration.

4. FPO Candidates shall have received a High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

5. FPO’s shall fluently read, speak, comprehend, and compose coherent written reports in English.

7. FPOs shall be able to physically able to perform the tasks below: - Frequent and prolonged walking, standing, sitting, and stooping, up to 12 hours per day, either indoors or outdoors, during daytime or nighttime. Outdoor posts may require an individual to withstand extreme heat, humidity, cold, and/or severe weather (e.g. snow, sleet, rain, hail, wind). - Frequent contact with the general public, law enforcement, and dispatch center, requiring an ability to speak clearly and distinctly and remain calm in stressful situations (e.g. confrontations with angry, distraught, disturbed, or violent persons). - Ability to remain alert for up to 12 hours with the ability to mentally and physically react quickly to a variety of unexpected and dangerous situations. Use of senses (sight, hearing, smell, touch) is necessary to discern unusual or dangerous situations. - Ability to use post security equipment (metal detectors, X-rays, CCTV); ability to use handcuffs, baton, and firearm at any time while on duty. - Ability to read post assignments, write reports, and respond to both routine and emergency dispatches/orders. - Ability to subdue violent or potentially violent or disturbed individuals, or intervene in a crisis (provide emergency first aid or resuscitation while waiting for arrival of paramedics or other emergency personnel). - Occasional running, sprinting, lifting heavy weights, moving heavy objects, climbing stairs (e.g. in responding to emergencies, ensuring timely and complete facility evacuations, giving pursuit, etc.).

8. FPOs shall submit to a pre-employment drug screen and remain free from all illegal substances and intoxicants or medications that could impair motor skills and abilities while on duty during this contract. FPOs are subject to random drug screening as well as drug screening directed by the State in the event of evidence of impairment. Additionally, FPOs are required to submit to drug screening in the event of an accident, or discharge of Company weapon (outside of directed training on the range).

9. FPOs are subject to a background check conducted by the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance Private Protective Services Division. The successful completion of the background check must be attained before any personnel can work under the FPO contract. Withholding information is grounds for rejection of employment. This background check will include criminal records, civil suits/hearings, prior work history, and references listed, and must be completed and returned by the applicant to Allied Universal within 24 hours of receipt. 9.1. Additionally, FPO candidates must be fingerprinted using the State’s approved contractor. FPO candidates will be scheduled for fingerprinting by date, time, and location and must obtain fingerprints according to these guidelines. A specific number will be issued and a receipt provided for the fingerprints; this must be returned to the HR Generalist or Contract Manager in order to proceed with the background check.

10. FPOs are subject to physical evaluation by an authorized medical provider prior to being placed on the FPO contract.

11. FPOs are subject to Psychological testing and evaluation by an authorized medical provider prior to being placed on the FPO contract.
