On behalf of the RAND Corporation, Headway Workforce Solutions is currently seeking Bilingual (Spanish/English) Field Interviewers to work on a research study throughout the state of California.  You will work on the California Socioeconomic Survey (CalSES) project. This is a longitudinal survey of families enrolled in the CalWORKs program (a state-funded program operated locally by county welfare departments that provides cash assistance and other services to eligible needy California families in all 58 counties in California).  The survey is being conducted as part of a larger research project being conducted by the RAND Corporation and the American Institutes for Research (AIR) that seeks to assess the impact of recent changes to the CalWORKs Program on California families.  The results of the survey will provide information that may help improve the services provided by CalWORKs

As a Bilingual Field Interviewer, you will:

  • Conduct in-home assessments of children ages 2-14 enrolled in the CalWORKs program
  • Assessments involve assessing children’s literacy and numeracy skills, measuring height and weight, and assisting parents in completing a brief pencil/paper survey.
  • Help track respondents to obtain current contact information and invite them to participate in a telephone interview

Required Qualifications:

  • Fluently speak, read, and write both English and Spanish
  • Motivated self-starter comfortable working independently and as part of a team
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Comfortable traveling to and working with at risk and underserved populations in a range of community and neighborhood settings
  • Comfortable working with children
  • Exceptional time-management, organizational, and record keeping skills
  • Prior survey research, interviewing, locating, data collection, or related professional experience 
  • Valid driver’s license, proof of auto insurance, and a dependable car
  • Ability to pass a DMV check
  • Ability to pass a Megan’s Law and background check
  • Flexible work schedule, including ability to work afternoons, evenings, and weekends
  • Successfully complete mandatory, paid training that will be held September 26th-30th at RAND’s Santa Monica offices
