What is my job:

Our stores depend on their Receiving teams to provide great products and incredible service to our customers. In this area, you’ll work closely with store employees as well as outside vendors to ensure high quality products are accurately delivered to the store so the store team can get products out on the shelves for customers to enjoy. If you are looking for an opportunity to work with others in a fast-paced environment and provide value to departments across the store, this could be the role for you!

How do I make a difference?

Providing Incredible, Knowledge  Based Customer Service

  • Verify all incoming deliveries; ensure the quantity and type of products received are correct and match invoices
  • Unload deliveries and break down pallets, putting supplies away neatly and efficiently
  • Maintain the overall appearance and functionality of the back dock and receiving area to ensure vendors are able to safely and efficiently make deliveries

Ensuring High Quality Products & Ingredients

  • Work with outside product vendors, check for overages and shortages; check quality of products delivered, ensure there is no visible damage or discrepancies and they are following Wegmans practices when making deliveries
  • Assist departments in tracking and processing vendor credits for overages, shortages, damages, etc.  and keep track of records for the receiving area, including billing, credits, transfers, inventory, damages and variances
  • Order all supplies for departments and offices throughout the store, communicate with appropriate people if when orders are received or if problems with orders arise
  • Properly handle products, use equipment, keep accurate logs and follow sanitation practices in accordance with food and human safety guidelines and Simplification 5S procedures

What skills, learnings, and experiences are preferred and will set me apart?

  • Customer service/ receiving experience in a food service, grocery or retail setting
  • Experience ordering products and handling inventory
  • Able to problem solve, anticipating, analyzing, and identifying problems, responding quickly when situations arise and preventing problems when possible

Work environment: 

  • Work includes standing for up to 4 hours without a break, walking, repetitive hand and arm movements including repetitive and sustained grasping, occasional to frequent lifting, bending and reaching, along with continuous interaction with co-workers and vendors in a fast-paced environment. The average weight range of items lifted is 5–20 pounds with a maximum weight lifted of 50 pounds rarely to occasionally. Work is performed indoors with some seasonal outdoor temperatures and weather. May be exposed to various allergens (things that may cause an allergic reaction)
  • Work may include use of hand pallet jack, power pallet jack, power walkie-reach, scissors lift or WAV unit.  Wegmans certification required for use of power equipment
