Job Overview:
As a Macy’s General Utility Associate, you will be an integral part of bringing the magic of Macy's to life. General Utility Associates will be responsible for a variety of roles to enhance the customer experience including, but not limited to: point of sale transactions, merchandising, fulfillment, BOPS, floor moves, replenishment, inventory, shortage control, stockroom organization, fitting room cleanliness, sorting and returning merchandise to the sales floor, signage, and markdowns. A General Utility Associate provides outstanding customer service and makes the customer feel welcome and comfortable. Performs other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions:
  • Maintain a professional attitude with sincerity and enthusiasm reflecting Macy’s commitment to our customer – the most important person in our stores.
  • Assist customers in all aspects of fulfilling their merchandise needs via Buy On Line Pick Up in Stores, Search and Send, etc. and leverage the fulfillment pickup to generate radiated sales.
  • Proactively create enhanced shopping experiences through the heightened use of tools, technology and collaboration.
  • Determine customer needs based on personal features and other customer preference related factors.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of store products and services to build sales and minimize returns.
  • Maintain high customer readiness standards by delivering a clean, neat, and easy-to-shop store environment.
  • Regular, dependable attendance & punctuality.
  • Acknowledge customers in a friendly and helpful manner.
  • Handle all customer interactions, including processing sales and returns at POS, courteously and professionally.
  • Be aware of current promotional events and sales.
  • Be proactive in assisting customers who are using devices to shop and compare, whether Macy’s devices or their own.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with Macy’s tools and systems including, but not limited to: POS, MPOS, Search and Send, My Client, More @ Macy’s, Radio Frequency scanning equipment, FEDSign.
  • Ability to learn and adopt new technology, tools, and systems as they become available.
  • Assist in operational tasks such as markups, markdowns, return-to-vendors (RTVs), transfers, inventory, and merchandising tasks such as replenishment, floor moves, and back-stocking.
  • Ensure floor-readiness standards by participating in: signing (set-up, removal, audit), merchandising, fitting room cleanliness, and general work area cleanliness.
  • Process merchandise orders including locating and picking merchandise for customer orders.
  • Participate in fitting room, store, and stockroom cleanliness, organization, and work area cleanliness.
  • Maintain good work area cleanliness standards.
  • Adhere to Asset Protection, shortage, inventory control, and compliance procedures.
  • Complete all activities in accordance with process and productivity standards and timelines.
  • Communicate issues to the appropriate executive/team.
  • Be sensitive to the store’s needs and flex into other selling or non-selling areas as needed.
  • Perform other duties as needed.


Qualifications:

Education /Experience

No specific educational accomplishment is required. Previous retail experience preferred, but not required.

Communication Skills

Ability to read, write, and interpret instructional documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively communicate with customers, peers, and management. Able to communicate on the telephone with proper etiquette.

Mathematical Skills

Basic math functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Able to use a calculator. Must be able to calculate percentages and ratios. Must be able to make change using American Monetary units.

Reasoning Ability

Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.

Other Skills

Must enjoy meeting and interacting with customers. Possess strong sense of urgency and a thirst for learning. Must be able to function as part of a team. Should be comfortable with the use of computers and Radio Frequency equipment.

Physical Demands

This position involves constant moving, talking, hearing, reaching, and standing. Involves standing for at least two consecutive hours and lifting at least 30 lbs. May involve stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing ladders. Vision abilities include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. May need to reach above eye level.

Work Hours

Ability to work a flexible schedule, including mornings, evenings, and weekends, which varies based on department and store/company needs in accordance with contractual provisions.
