Looking for a Field Applications Engineer to join this company- an autonomous vehicle start-up located in Ann Arbor. There are 13 people here, with projections to hire up to 20 more engineers in the next calendar year. Small office, where they do software development, tech work, and small administrative functions. Very clean facility, and all the people here have an entrepreneurial mindset. They are piloting these driverless vehicles, with their customer focus on college and corporate campuses, as well as municipalities.

The Field Applications Engineer will start being trained in their product for the first few weeks, will do some test driving, and then be responsible for the hands-on support of their vehicle fleet pilots and deployments. They will scout locations for possible pilots, will lead a team of 2-3 techs in preparing for the pilots and deployments, will maintain vehicles in the field, including sensor calibration, mechanical maintenance, and software and firmware upgrades. Will document and resolve issues encountered in the field. will act as the company representative to customers and the general public. These driverless vehicles will be focused around college campuses and corporate campuses. This person will be working in a Linux operating system environment; will troubleshoot issues within the autonomous fleet vehicle when needed, and will need to summarize the issues and communicate back to the home office and technicians/engineers within the office.

Requirements for the job:

  • BS in Computer Science/Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering, in order of preference
  • LINUX operating system experience (2 plus years)
  • strong communication and/or customer interaction skills
  • mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills
  • Clean Driving Record
  • ability to travel 25-50% of the time (some local, some national)
  • 1-3 years of experience in a hands-on or applications engineering role (co-op/internship experience would suffice)
