Five Quick Tips to Making More Money

Easy ways to get more bang for your buck

Here’s the hard truth: there are only two ways to get more money – earn more or spend less. While we personally will still harbor dreams of winning the lottery, being discovered by a famous movie director or becoming a famous rapper, we know that saving money is the fastest way to increase our cash flow.

Here are our tips for stacking up those dolla, dolla bills y’all.

Quality over quantity

It might seem counter intuitive, but buying something that’s a little more expensive but that will last you longer will help you save money in the long run. That doesn’t mean that every pair of shoes you buy should be Louboutins, but you should invest in well-made shoes (and furniture and clothes and electronics) in timeless styles that will last you for years.

Clip coupons

You don’t need to become an extreme couponer to save money. Looking online and in the newspaper for the items you buy will help to decrease your monthly grocery bill. Remember; just clip the coupons for the items that you’d normally buy. Buying items just because you have a coupon will negate any of the savings you might have gotten had you been thrifty.

Budget

It ain’t always fun, but it is necessary if you want to have money left over at the end of the month. In the long run budgeting can help you achieve your financial goals (hello vacation in Tahiti). Sit down, figure out how much you make, how much your bills are and how much you can afford to save. Your wallet will thank you for it.

How can I be overdrawn? I still have checks left

Be sure to keep an eye on your checking account and make sure you stick to your budget. Spending more than you have can lead to hefty overdraft charges that can mount up. Plus, you’ll want to make sure that you’re not being overcharged by an accidental double swipe at the store register.

Say ‘no’

And we come to the hardest tip of all. You’ve got to learn to say no. No to your family, your children, your significant other/spouse and toughest of all – yourself. There are very few people in this world who can afford to buy everything they want without worry of how much it costs or how much they have in the bank. We are not those people and are betting you aren’t either. So as hard as it’s been for us and will be for you, we’re going to have to tell ourselves “no” when we see that pair of shiny, black, red-soled Louboutins that keep calling our name every time we open up a magazine. At least until we become famous rappers, that is.
