"Apprentice" Winner names America’s No. 1 Hourly Worker
Bill Rancic, Season 1 winner of “The Apprentice,” selects winner in SnagAJob.com competition
RICHMOND, Va., January 13, 2006 – America’s No. 1 Hourly Worker has been named by someone who knows a thing or two about vying for a coveted job, Bill Rancic.
In a competition that began with more than 1,000 entries, three finalists were put to the test in New York City, by Rancic, the Season 1 winner of “The Apprentice” and spokesperson for The SnagAJob.com Campaign to Hire America.
“It was a tough decision, but in the end it was the passion for his job that exemplifies what it means to be the best hourly worker,” said Rancic.
Edward Elvira, a Chuck E. Cheese’s® employee in Yuma, Ariz., takes home $5,000 and a prestigious job title: America’s No. 1 Hourly Worker.
“I feel like everyone who was a finalist is a winner,” said Elvira. “I am very lucky that I love where I work, I’m appreciated, and I look forward to being there.”
Elvira plans to give some of his $5,000 cash prize to his mom, put some towards his education and make a down payment on a new car. When he is not at Chuck E. Cheese’s, Elvira is busy completing his online business management classes through Western International University. His dream: to one day run his own Mexican restaurant.
The other two finalists were:
- Brianne Pavacik, a 19-year-old associate of The Home Depot® from Culver City, Calif.
- Annette Ottani, a 46-year-old employee of Michaels® from Springfield, Mass.
The contest, conducted by SnagAJob.com, the nation’s leading online source of part-time and hourly jobs, is the punctuation of the company’s Campaign to Hire America, a campaign that placed more than 124,000 people in hourly wage jobs throughout the United States. An expert panel of judges from the human resources industry was responsible for narrowing the field to the three finalists.
The main criteria Rancic was looking for in the final competition:
- How each finalist sees themselves in the workplace
- Each finalist’s view on what it takes to be a great hourly worker
- Each finalist’s own experience within the workplace
“This contest was designed to not only recognize one special hourly wage earner but shine a well-earned spotlight on all these deserving workers,” said Shawn Boyer, the CEO of SnagAJob.com.
