Snagajob member Christine got in touch on Facebook and shared her story. She took the time to find a job based on what she did (and didn’t!) like about her last position. Taking the time to find jobs that you really want will make you happier when you get hired, and increase the chances that you’ll be sticking around for the long haul.
Here’s Christine’s story:
“After hearing “we know you’ve tried but we’re going to have to let you go…” I was devastated, but I did the best I could. I’d been in the hotel industry for 6 years.
First I re-vamped my resume (did research on good resume writing tips etc.), then joined as many job sites as I could and looked in the local paper. I just didn’t want any job though, I really focused on what I wanted to do. I have been a front desk hotel worker (all shifts) for 6 years at various hotels; I love the hotel biz I just wanted something different, not having to deal with people face to face or wondering what I would have to face working night audits alone.
So, I just said I want to be on the phones, helping people that way, and focused on that. One day Aerotek sent me an email (though I read it days later – I thought it was just another lead!) I finally read it and it was working for BWI (Best Western International) at their call center! 2 weeks of training and I’ve been there for 2 months now! I love it! Yay!
Long story short – Be determined, go for what you want or you won’t be happy. I know all too well a paycheck is important and a job is a job yes. but, you also have to be happy with what you do It’s not always easy – just think positive
There’s my story! Thanks Snagajob thru Aerotek!
Congratulations Christine; we’re so excited that your persistence, research and positive attitude helped you find a job you love! Thank you so much for sharing your story, and best of luck at your new job!
