My job search is going slow, but I remain hopeful. I want to thank my family and my friends for looking out for me. They tell me if they see a sign at a place of business that is hiring. After a few hours of job searching I like to relax with a good book and listen to music. My advice to other job seekers, you are not alone. There are many others who are looking for work and are having a rough time as well. My advice to other job seekers, keep faith in yourself and sooner or later something will come along.
Wonderful advice Sheila – thank you for sharing and good luck with the contest and your job search!
IVE BEEN LOOKING FOR A JOB FOR SO LONG ;THAT I FORGOT WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME I HAD FUN…..MY HUSBAND DIE LAST YEAR AND ALL HE LEFT WAS DEBTS,THAT I HAD TO PAY….COULD”NT EVEN BUY GIFTS THIS YEAR FOR MY 4 KIDS….HAD TO CUT DOWN ON EVERYTHING JUST TO PAY ALL MY BILLS…..PLEASE DON”T LET THIS HAPPEN IN YOUR LIFE…FOR THANKSGIVING WE HAD SOUP INSTEAD OF TURKEY NO MONEY FOR THAT ETHER…MOOD FEEL REALY SAD
I’m sorry to hear that things have been so tough for you and your family. Help your kids focus on togetherness and family instead of goodies this season, that can be a real gift that will outlast anything you can wrap. Soups can be delicious (and are a great simple way to start teaching kids to cook)! If soup is on the menu again this month, see if you can make it a family event by letting each child suggest a soup ingredient, or help join in the preparation. Good luck with your job search, and thank you for sharing your story with us. Please feel free to ask if you have any questions about your job search we might be able to help with. The best advice i can give is never give up! Keep trying every day no matter if you feel like it or not because just when you are about to give up all hope you get that phone call for a interview. Now i have seen some people go dressed into interviews all dressed up and also just in shorts and a tee-shirt and flip flops and get the job. Honestly it comes down to the personality you show when being interviewed. Always being early helps too, but so does being dressed nice, but not all the times. When i got my interview @ Macy’s the person interviewing me got along really well from the start, even though she said at the end of the interview we will bench ya for 3 weeks and see what comes up. That following Tuesday i got a call asking me if i was still interested in taking a job. Even though it is a Seasonal job i have learned a new talent in sales which i never had and i am learning alot, which if this job does not keep atleast i learned a new talent which alot of places are looking for!
Awesome advice Jake – thanks for sharing, and good luck!
I have been using Snagajob for a couple of months now. I don’t know if it just me, but since I started using Snagajob, I started getting more calls for interviews. So far no hires, but I am more optimistic about my job searching. Thank you Snagajob.
Wonderful Chris! Im glad for you, remember the key terms when in an interview:
Smile.
Laugh.
Be yourself.
Happy Holidays!
I am currently employed but looking to advance my career. I find Snagajob very helpful. Also, the words of encouragement keep me motivated and I like the inter-action from other job seekers. I used tips from Snagajob to compose my Thank you letter for a interview recently and am so excited to have a second interview with that company today. I highly recommend all persons looking for work to use Snagajob, because we all need a little boost in today’s competitive job hunt. Good luck to every one.
Good luck with your second interview Kelly, let us know how things go!
Thank you, I certainly will.
I have been unemployed for two months, before that, I was hired at papa Johns in my town, all thanks to Snagajob, I put in an application, five minutes later, I get a call from the manager, I go down and do the interview, seconds later I have a job for about eleven months, before then, I was unemployed for about 2 and half years. Now that I am still unemployed and have absolutely no money to buy my family Christmas gifts, I am struggling to the point I will take any kind of job, any. I am calling and emailing and doing job interviews but hearing nothing back. Its almost Christmas, next Sunday I will have no money, no job, struggling, and desperate to find a job asap. I’m hoping a prayer or an angel will show me a sign of relief. If you need a job, come to Snagajob.com, they will help you.
As many of us know looking for a job is very hard and very difficult these days, and no matter how hard we try we just seem to not be in the right place at the right time.
Although that may be true, There is alot of people who just fill out the application and never follow the simple steps…
- Call the company (Building you applied to.) and let them know how interested you are
-Do another application for that company after 60 days (Unless told otherwise)
-Keep checking in, Pretty much on monday’s people will start being hired for different spots as most employees quit over the weekend.
-Smile. Laugh. Be yourself!
All of the above are key terms to getting a good job! No matter where you are trying to apply if you keep contact they will remember you (And try to go in and talk to the manager as much as possible. But dont get too carried away, as talking too much can hurt the chances of you getting that job!)
Happy holidays!
This shout out is for Professor Roberts! She has inspired me to move forward with everything in my life, full blast. No looking back! I am already a motivated person but she has kicked it up a notch! I took her Speech 101 course and it was amazing. I’ve never been taught the way she teaches in college. I felt like I was learning more than getting things crammed in my head and expecting to remember it. I actually know the material and will use it in the future. She asked me to come into her office the other day. I did not know what to expect. She told me she just wanted to tell me she appreciates the student that I am. I felt special. She already helped me develop courage to speak in front of a formal audience but now she gave me inspiration. I asked her about her life and I told her about mines and I now know the steps I need to take to gradually progress as far as career goals and financial stability. We talked about jobs, she gave me tips about how to get one inside the school. I will for sure, follow her tips. I feel like she’s so supportive and exciting! She gets me excited. I found someone to give me that extra push to continue my journey to a career and healthy lifestyle. In college, students usually do the work and get a grade. Professor Roberts actually gives her student time to get to know her while discovering ourselves. I am HONESTLY excited about all of my future endeavors. I will do what I have to do, to become who I want to be. Thanks to Professor Roberts for recognizing my potential, I now know that I am on the right track and I should keep striving! I believe everyone should find such a valuable person such as she.
AWESOME shout out Danielle! Thanks for sharing, and good luck!
Thanks!
I am a man in my late fifty’s. I have been looking for a job for a while now. I moved to a different city for personal reasons.
I thought I had a job in my new location before I moved, yet when I got her the job had fallen though.
I have applied to many jobs, have registered with numerous temp. agencies. I have had a number of interviews, I have called or emailed back to follow up on the interview. I also have followed up on filling applications to show I was interested and not just filling out apps . So far it has been, “We are sorry but we have filled that position.” or “We are not going to proceed with a second round interview.”
I did get one short job though and agency, lasted a day when the company that was using the agency found I had a medical concern, which does not keep me from doing a job, yet they told me, ” sorry, but we have to let you go. We are afraid that you may hurt yourself. ” Excuse me?
Job searching is a very frustrating and sometimes depressing thing to have to do. If it was not for the support and help of my Fiance, if not for her, the search wold be that much harder.
Thank you for entering the contest and sharing your story Jim! One thought reading through your story, see if the temp and staffing agencies you are working with will conduct a mock interview with you – it sounds like interviews are your hangup and they may be able to give you some advice and guidance that can improve your success.
Thank you , Amy for your thought’s and recommendation.
Actually I have done that already with one agency. They didn’t have any negative thoughts on how I conduct myself nor with how I answered question or with questions I would ask.
Thank you for reading this. My name is Nynee. I am a full time student, studying to become a Medical Assistant. I am almost to the point of completion of my classroom/lab studies, and am slated to begin an internship in January. I have maintained an A average throughout the year-long program, and am very active in our Student Council. School has overtaken my life, in every sense – personally, mentally, emotionally and financially. Work is very limited in my immediate city. I have very limited time in which to conduct a job search, and though I’ve received some financial aid, it is not enough to help me meet my costs of living. I am actively seeking employment, and will have more flexibility soon. Seeing my goal in sight, and knowing that I’ll have a much wider range of jobs to choose from in a few months (I graduate in March) helps keep me motivated both in school and on my job search. Designating a little time each day after class helps keep me focused and disciplined. I know that I can do more, and plan on using the Holiday break to continue my search. I read positive, uplifting quotes from philosophers and spiritual teachers to help me keep the faith that my needs will be met. My family and close friends have been a tremendous support for me this year, as I have embarked upon a journey towards becoming a stronger individual, a better educated person and financially autonomous again. I hope that my story helps someone else to stay motivated and hopeful, as well as possibly myself should I win this essay contest. Good luck and Happy Holidays to everyone! Thank you, Ms.White and Snagajob for asking for our feedback and having this contest. Be Well.
Thank you for sharing your story and advice Tanynee! Good luck with your studies, your job search and the contest!
This is the second time in 2 years that I have been unemployed. This time around is going nowhere. It is not a great time to be jobless, I am tired of applying for jobs and not getting a call. Also, after applying, then seeing the position still up or added as a new posting. I am just frustrated. I wish everyone good luck with their job search and have a Merry Christmas!

Darace Smith Well i was driving when they called for an interview. seeing myself with long hair. i cut my hair and donated it to locks of love. then. The next day at my interview i dressed professional. I came 15 minutes early. And made sure i wasnt tired or ragged looking. upon my interview questions i kept on track. Sharp clean answers. No sidetracking. and also made sure to not volunteer my information. keept a positive attitude. And smiled. not to much. But enough to show im professional puntual polite and presentable. Then 3 days of waiting and then finally they calked and said i started tge following monday morning. so now im very happy. And finally employed even after i felt like giving up, i never did though and now its paying off. how i conducted myself was key….

My story of joblessness began last August. I think back and marvel at how long ago that seems
and how quickly it went by. Finding work has been a harder task that before. I’ve been highly frustrated at times, finding myself becoming a bit irritable with friends and family. At other times, I’ve been so down that I thought that I’d never get back to working again. It eats at you when you see others working and moving forward in life, and you start to feel as if your efforts are in vain. Thankfully, those moments are few and far between. There are many reasons why my job search is a life search. For one, I’ve been able to better understand myself; having this time to analyze why and how I react to stress is vital, and an opportunity many don’t have until it can be costly. Second, I’ve been taking the time to not stress so much during the search. Getting sick due to worry and anxiety can’t help. I know it’s easier said than done. I’ve taken the opportunity to structure my daily routine to fit in some walking, meditation and to take part in activities that lighten my mood like museum trips or visits to a bookstore to browse. Even some housecleaning helps; a clear space enhances a clear mind. And lastly, I’ve
grown to appreciate the support system I do have that much more. My family’s been a godsend with their love and support; not a week goes by where I don’t get an email about a
job listing from one of my sisters or some interview advice. And Snagajob has been a great
source of help as well; they’ve been key in helping me rebuild my positivity and have helped
me to keep plugging away. I’ve been fortunate to have had two and a half months of interviews
since linking up with them. I’ve learned a lot about interviews and how to conduct yourself before, during and after. And I know eventually I will find myself another job because I am
valuable and someone out there will see it.
I believe that last sentence goes for anyone else reading this looking for work. Don’t give up.

I am a single mother who graduated w/my bachelors degree this past April! However, i have been unemployed & looking/applying daily on SnagaJob.com (as well as many staffing agencies/other employment sites)since then. Yet, I am having no luck (or income)!! I could use the $200 to be able to buy my 5 yr old son some Christmas presents this year!! I just keep praying I’ll get a job soon! I just have to be patient and stay positive…and keep reminding myself that everything happens for a reason.
My job search has been ongoing since I graduated in May as a double major in English and Journalism. The field I’ve been trying to get into is very limited as far as jobs go, so ‘ve not only applied to jobs in my field, but I’ve been applying to just about anything nowadays. I wake up and one of the first things I do is check out all of the job sites that I know. I was recently told about Snagajob and I believe it is a great addition to the sites that I’ve been looking for jobs on. I love the feature of searching by zipcode and seeing what jobs may be available locally. It would definitely be convenient to get a job nearby!
The job search has been tough and tiring. I’m getting a bit frustrated over the fact that I’ve applied to so many jobs and I haven’t heard back from anyone but I know it’s tough out there for everyone! I just keep my head up and keep trying because that’s all I can do until I finally have someone tell me ” You’re Hired!.” In the meantime, I’ve been spending quality time with my friends who always make me feel better and encourage me when things aren’t going so well.
I hope sometime soon(really really soon because my summer job money seems to be disappearing quickly), I will be able to continue on with my career and really start living my life.
I’m definitely not giving up!
