Dedication and preparation helped Christina get hired!

by: Kim Costa

I was lucky enough to speak to one of Snagajob’s newest hired members, Christina, and just had to share the steps she took to get there.

Time and dedication

Christina approached the job search as a job itself. About three to four days a week she would dress up in “interview-y” clothes and spend the day going to local businesses asking if they were hiring. In addition, she would also go visit the jobs she had applied to and followed up to make sure they had viewed her application. Christina would spend the remaining days in the week dedicated to searching for a job online.

As frustrating as it was, Christina never gave up. She continued every day to apply and follow up on leads.

How Snagajob helped

Christina’s neighbor told her about Snagajob, where her job search process continued. After applying online, she would wait a few days to follow up on her application in person. Her neighbor sent her an email notice from Snagajob saying that their local Kohl’s was hiring. After applying, she was called in the next day for an interview. “I was shocked by how fast it all happened,” Christina happily told us.

The interview

Christina’s dad always told her that “being on time is late” so she made sure to get to the interview early, dressed in her best interview outfit. She prepared for the interview by researching the company and coming in with questions regarding both the company and the position. Her attitude helped Christina stand out to the interviewer. “I answered every question they had with a smile on my face, ” she noted.

Following up

About a week after the interview, Christina contacted Kohl’s to ask about the status of the position. She was told someone would get back to her soon, and was offered the position the next morning!

Christina’s ultimate advice:

“The greatest piece of advice I can give is to keep filling out applications – even if you’re about to give up – because you might just get that call like I did to lift your spirits and help you believe in yourself!!”

Her message to Snagajob:

“Your work honestly helps people out and helps them lead a better life. I know that’s what is doing for me!”

Congratulations on your new job at Kohl’s! We are so excited for you and hope you will keep in touch to let us know how it goes!

    Thanks for sharing this.

There are times when I feel like giving up because I feel like nothing is going my way. I keep in mind that I have a strong support system from my family and friends who keep their eyes open for me.

Times are tough, but I’m keeping my spirits up.

Congratulation Christina for getting that job.

After reading this post, I feel more up beat and ready to take control again. Like many job seekers who been out of the market, or college students that just started to applied jobs, the job search can be emotional roller coaster ride. However, instead of looking at the negative, I look at the positive and applied to place that fit my skills many are which volunteer services in hospitals, administration office, ect. Other are entry level jobs, and some store jobs as well.
