The application was stressful and the interview went okay, but you just got the news that they hired someone else for the job. Yes, it stinks. There’s no getting around that fact. However, there are steps you can take to turn this negative situation around.
Think about what you’ve learned
If you didn’t get an interview, go back and look over your application and /or resume. Check to make sure that everything is spelled correctly. Typos and spelling errors are the number one mistake job seekers make and it can really hold you back in your job search. If everything seems in order, show it to a friend to get a second opinion. Maybe you missed something, or maybe something doesn’t make sense.
Think about adding details
I hear from hired members who tell me that they weren’t having much luck in hearing from employers until they went into their Snagajob profile and added details outlining their work and volunteer experience. This is your chance to show off and list all of the qualities that make you a great hire!
Re-visit your interview skills
If you did get an interview but not the job, think back to the interview. Was there a question you stumbled over? Were you not dressed professionally? Because the job market is so competitive, you need to do everything you can to show them how professional and dedicated you can be.
Don’t get too stressed
It may feel like the end of the world, but you can’t harp on the disappointment. It’s extremely possible that you didn’t get the position simply because someone was a better fit. So treat yourself to some ice cream, dust yourself off and get back in the game. The job you are meant to have is out there waiting on you, you just have to make sure you put in the effort to take it!
Treat this as a learning exercise and make sure you take everything you learned into consideration when you start applying again.
