Moving into your college dorm room is an exciting time. Of course you know to bring your clothes, toiletries, microwave, etc., but what about the things that slip your mind until you wish you had them in your room? We've got you covered with the top five forgotten dorm room essentials!
What would college be without a few late night cramming sessions? A desk lamp will allow you to get work done, while being considerate and not disturbing your roommate's sleep.
In between trying to balance classes and a social life, it's not uncommon for a massive amount of dirty clothes to accumulate before you know it. Don't worry, I know this particular struggle all too well so I'm not judging. Bring a laundry hamper along so you have a place to stuff dirty clothes away when your parents come for a surprise visit. Try to get a bag instead of a basket because it will be easier to carry to the laundry room.
If you have communal bathrooms, a shower caddie will come in handy so you don't have to walk down the hallway with a handful of products. Side note: Bring a pair of flip flops. It makes me shudder to think of some of the things I've seen when sharing a bathroom, especially with an entire floor of people. You can still benefit from having a shower caddie even if you don't have communal bathrooms because it keeps everything you need in one place, which will come in handy when you wake up late and need to really rush through a shower.
Between your phone, laptop, television and mini fridge, not to mention your roommate's belongings, the number of outlets in your dorm room will be filled quickly. Pack a power strip (or two) so that you have no problem plugging in all your devices and in the spots that are most convenient for you. Try to buy a power strip that includes a surge protector as well.
I know the last thing on your mind when coming to college is cleaning up, but it's necessary. I'm not a big fan of cleaning myself so I know firsthand that you can get by on the bare minimum. Bring along a broom and dustpan. Also, consider disinfectant wipes your best friend because they are cheap and can be used to clean anything from the kitchen all the way to the bathroom.
