Applying to jobs can get a little repetitive, especially if you’ve been searching for awhile. One of the worst habits you can get into is to not closely look over every single application before you actually submit it. Each application is important and time should really be spent making sure you’ve done everything you can to make sure the employer notices your application for all the right reasons.
So, what should you give another glance to?
Name - Did you correctly capitalize and spell your name? It sounds silly, but you may be surprised at how much this actually happens.
Phone number - Is this really your number? We once heard from a Snagajob member who accidentally put down his buddy’s number…who ended up getting called and got the job!
Email - Make sure it’s appropriate and that it’s actually yours!
Address - Just double check to make sure it looks like an actual address (and you didn’t accidentally put in your email address).
Double check your entire application for:
Text lingo - Did u right sum like i did in this sent? While you may be used to texting, this type of grammar will drive a recruiter crazy!
Capitalization - Make sure all your former employers are capitalized, as well as any education or references you are including.
Spelling - Don’t run into the most common mistake that job seekers make, and double (and triple) check to make sure your spelling is absolutely perfect. Remember, the red squiggly line does not catch everything.
Remember, no matter how many times you apply for jobs, each application deserves a little love. Don’t just assume it’s perfect every time (you know what they say about those who ass-u-me?). Giving your applications another glance really won’t take all that much time, but can make a big difference!
