Now that you’ve got the back of house covered, it’s time to find quality hires to handle front of house duties. These are the employees who will help represent your business and interact with customers face to face. The skills and  knowledge required to handle the specific duties depend on the role your new hire will play in the restaurant.

The most common positions in a front of house staff are bartender, server and host. Keep an eye out for the following characteristics when filling these jobs in your restaurant:

Bartender – As expected, a bartender must maintain an extensive knowledge of your restaurant’s beverage selection, but he/she will also need to be friendly with patrons and anticipate any needs they might have. The bartender should also be able to multitask and feel comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. A devotion to keeping his/her designated work area clean is also a must.

Server – Working as a server is a lot more than taking orders and serving food. A good waiter or waitress must provide quality service in an orderly, consistent and professional manner to help deliver the great dining experience customers expect from your establishment. If a customer does encounter a problem, a qualified server should have the confidence to take the right action to correct said problem. Good communication skills are key as he/she will be in contact with both customers and kitchen staff.

Host –  A host, or hostess, should be a pleasant person who’s comfortable working in a team environment. Look for someone who can be trusted with directions as the position usually requires minimal supervision. Just like the rest of the front of house staff, a good host can multitask, handle complaints and stay courteous, all while handling the pressure of a fast-paced environment.

These are a few of the qualifications you should consider when trying to build a staff you can trust to work the front of house for your restaurant. To start finding your ideal applicants, discover how Snagajob Talent Sourcing can help. Happy hiring!
