Maintenance Mechanic, 3rd shift

We have a full-time opening for a Maintenance Mechanic, 3rd shift.

Must be able to work various shifts per week.

Maintenance Mechanic, 3rd shift

Position Summary:

Spreads and margarine manufacturing site with 200 employees.  Site operates 24/5 with weekend work.  Products include Promise, Country Crock, Promise, Imperial, and I Can’t Believe it’s not Butter.
A maintenance mechanic maintains and fixes machinery that processes margarine and spreads in the plant.  This includes trouble shooting and repairing processing and packaging equipment.  The mechanic is also responsible for performing preventative maintenance and completing work orders.  Above all, the mechanic is to work safely and not take short cuts with himself or any other employee.

Duties and Responsibilities:

•Repairs, replaces, adjusts and aligns components of machinery equipment.
•Cleans and lubricates parts, equipment and machinery.
•Performs routine preventative maintenance and repairs to manufacturing equipment as needed.
•Observes electrical and mechanical devices/systems in operation to locate causes of trouble.
•Repairs and replaces defective parts.
•Service and repair plant facility equipment such as air compressors, heat exchangers, boilers and ammonia refrigeration equipment.
•Adjust and test machinery.
•Make repairs such as chains, sprockets, bearings, and belts.  Rebuilds pneumatic cylinders, valves, pumps, gear boxes, and other drive train components.
•Stick and tig welding repair.
•Employee works almost entirely on their own, with little or no supervision or guidance from their line manager.  A typical shift involves the employee completing a list of PM’s (preventative maintenance) and taking calls to the production line when there is a problem.
•Employee must be able to troubleshoot equipment when line operators have problems with the production lines.  Finding the solution to line breakdowns can be quite simple to the more complex. 
•Employee will interact with line operators when troubleshooting problems.  Employee must be able to listen and ask the right questions.  Mechanics are expected to constructively guide and train operators on operation of line to keep lines running at designated efficiency level.
•Employee reports to a Maintenance Supervisor who reports to a TPM/Maintenance Manager who then reports to the Site Leader.  There is also a lead mechanic on each shift who is assigned to answer questions and assist the mechanics.   Production line operators are peers of the mechanic.
•There is a lot of overtime in this position especially on weekends.  Maintenance overtime operates at approximately 20%.

Qualifications:

•Knowledge and skills to perform this job must be acquired through manufacturing experience or specialized training.
•This is not an entry level position where employee will be trained. 
•Applicants that are hired must have mechanical ability and experience repairing industrial machinery.
•It is preferred that they also know 3 phase electrical, AC and DC controls, and Allen Bradley PLC based equipment.
•High School Diploma or GED Required.
