ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

GUEST INTERACTIONS

  • Welcome guests with a non-scripted greeting
  • Using acquired menu item knowledge, offers menu suggestions, answers questions, and anticipates guests’ needs
  • Practices responsible beverage service with all guests – verify their age.
  • Take drink and food orders
  • Ensures food and drink items always meet guests’ satisfaction
  • Attends to any additional guest needs or requests
  • Maintain the bar top – pre bus, replace beverage napkins or coasters.
  • Ensure an updated guest check is in front of them at all times
  • Learn the names of bar regulars
  • Maintains guests’ area – pre-bussing, detailing, etc.
  • Be an active team member, helping others when possible
  • Silent Service - service is felt, but not seen
  • Answer the phone when necessary
  • Ensure no guest leaves the restaurant unhappy. Utilize our service recovery policy and involve the manager if necessary. Always strive for 100% guest satisfaction

PREPARE DRINKS

  • Prepare and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages according to company recipes and standards

PROCESS ORDERS

  • Enters drink and food orders on a Point of Sale system
  • Prepare, present and receive payment for guests’ checks in a timely, efficient manner
  • Maintain bank balance

CLEAN & STOCK

  • Complete the bar opening and closing checklist and production sheets
  • Prepare mixers and garnishes for drinks
  • Assemble bar dishwasher and/or compartment sinks. Monitor chemical levels.
  • Set the bar top up for service
  • Wash and sterilize glassware. Monitor glassware to ensure they are free of cracks or chips.
  • Stock all necessary smallwares (straws, bev naps, glassware, roll-ups, ect)
  • Maintain all bar equipment
  • Requisition liquor, beverages and supplies from the bar manager

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS
As a member of the Houlihan’s Restaurants, Inc. team, a server should know and follow Houlihan’s Restaurants, Inc. policies and procedures and have strong interpersonal skills that would enable him/her to verbally communicate in a positive manner with co-workers, guests, and the general public. Must be of age to serve alcoholic beverages and able to obtain liquor card if state law requires.

The server should be able to perform the outlined essential job functions, which require the following abilities:

  • Able to see at a distance (20 feet), at close range (12 inches), distinguish between shapes, and utilize peripheral vision to avoid potential hazards
  • Able to hear in one or both ears so that verbal communication can be received, understood, and acted upon
  • Able to read, write, and perform addition/subtraction calculations
  • Able to remember abbreviations, and menu items
  • Use body parts, usually fingers and hands, able to distinguish between sharp/dull, and hot/cold
  • Able to control and utilize fingers to write, use POS register, slice, chop, and operate equipment
  • Able to bend, handle, carry, lift, reach, wipe, climb, and stoop
  • Able to walk and stand for up to 8 hours
