Dock Master/ Marina Manager ABOUT THE JOB The Dock Master/Marina Manager oversees the daily operations of the Queen Anne Marina in Stevensville MD. This is a working position with the performance of all service duties on regular schedule while maintaining the reputation of the marina as an attractive, clean and welcoming facility offering excellent service REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: Reports to the Chief Operating Officer & Controller. EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:____________________________________________________ Must have previous marina management in operations and financial aspects Must be able to operate with a travel lift with proficiency Must be able to operate excavator, front loader, forklift, & dump truck Must have Captain’s license RESPONSIBILITIES: • Responsible for the safe, profitable and efficient operation all phases of the marina including, dock slip rentals, guide boat charters, outboard and row boat rentals, fuel and boat supply sales, event operations, lease operations service, marina, property, owner’s property and event center. • Staff selection and development, scheduling and corrective action in compliance with MDE, Country & Company policy. • All aspects of employee training including seamanship, marina, event, maintenance and boat operations. • Coordination of boat repairs with mechanic staff and Manager of Transportation Maintenance. • Maintenance of payroll records. • Administration of financial budget, invoicing, collections. • Oversight of practical and written examinations for all boat operators. • Administration of the Queen Anne Marina operations in an environmentally conscious manner in accordance to MDE regulations. • Other duties as assigned by the Chief Operating Officer & Controller. • Communicating effectively to HOA and marina slip holders about service and events • Pumping of waste from boats • Monitoring Parking • Keeping accurate fuel records, stock and maintenance • Marketing, stocking, sales and control of ship store inventories • Operate VHF radio. • Maintaining the reputation of the marina as an attractive, clean and welcoming facility offering excellent service. • Preparing and maintaining daily opening and closing procedures • Maintaining the safety of staff and boaters. • Maintaining the security of all property, records, cash and keys • Planning, organizing, scheduling and coordinating of work. • Maintaining the quality, accuracy and quantity of work. • Giving advice, guidance, instructions, and direction. • Training marina staff as required. • Allocating slips appropriate to size of vessel and availability of slips. • Tying up boats. • Fuelling of boats. • Pumping of waste from boats. • Collecting fees for dockage, ramp use, fuel, etc. • Touring the facility morning and evening recording and confirming overnight docking and services. • Supervising and managing the effective recording of sales and collection of revenue to ensure accurate and complete recording of all financial information. • Collecting fees, such as dockage, pump out charges, shower, and fuel. • Programming and using cash register and point of sale equipment including exchange rate for U.S. funds. • Issuing receipts for all transactions • Taking and keeping daily accurate fuel records both readings from the fuel pumps and physical dips. • Preparing and providing to the Clerk-Treasurer weekly cash deposits accompanied by appropriate tapes from the cash register. • Keeping proper records as required by the Clerk-Treasurer including but not limited to: weekly, monthly and seasonal sales reports. • Opening and closing inventory. • List of seasonal boaters with boat name and payment information. • List of seasonal boats for launch and haul out. • Coordinate with other marina & event staff for special events • Year-end reconciliation of all marina revenue per standard format. • Inspecting regularly the Marina grounds, structures and equipment and implementing, or cause to have implemented, the repair and maintenance measures required. • Maintaining the marina site free of refuse or garbage and weeds and the cutting of grass. • Doing minor repairs to the buildings, equipment and docks as may be necessary including a weekly check of the anchor chains and all ties. • Maintaining equipment: i.e. pump out system, water hoses, gas and diesel pumps including calibration. • Cleaning showers, washrooms, laundry facilities and office. This would include scrubbing floors, dusting, sanitizing, etc. as well as general painting, replacement of light bulbs, fixing a window or door, etc. • Conducting all financial transactions under the direction of the controller. • Recommending any changes/development in policies or situations that may occur that require clarification of policies. • Preparing an annual report for submission to Council including recommendations with respect to additions, renovations and repair of dock equipment and facilities. • Completing time sheets for self and other employees. • Keeping record of seasonal boaters i.e. names, addresses, boat size and boat name • Ordering retail items: fuel, pop, ice, charts, clothing. • Ensuring the completion of the Mooring Agreement by every seasonal boater. • Reviewing the emergency protocol and ensuring that all staff are familiar with the plan and the appropriate action to be taken for various emergencies. • Coordination with management & staff through attendance at meetings as required and the provision of reports and input with Marina staff as team leader to provide the highest standard of service to the Marina clientele with the Clerk-Treasurer for the efficient and accurate preparation of invoices for seasonal dockage, launch, haul-out and storage as well as general operations of the Marina including deposit of cash with the coordinator of the launch and haul out to ensure a safe and efficient operation. • Work is subject to physical hazard, is carried out in all types of weather conditions and is subject to stress and interruptions at all hours including evenings and weekends • Monitoring parking ensuring that vehicles and trailers are parked in the proper areas SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE: • A valid U.S. Coast Guard 100 ton Inland Master’s License or equivalent is preferred. • Must have a working familiarity with 46 CFR Parts 24-28 and 46 CFR Chapter 1, Parts 175 through 187. • Knowledge and understanding of MDE, MWM policies and procedures. • Leadership Skills. • Communication Skills. • Organizational Skills. • Knowledge of seamanship, boats and marina operations • Knowledge of building maintenance • Knowledge of emergency and lifesaving procedures, CPR First Aid Qualified. • Knowledge of Queen Anne Marina & event center facilities and services. • Knowledge of department and Company policies and procedures. • Knowledge of MD Boating and Fishing Regulations. • Must possess valid Driver’s License. • Must be able to provide a satisfactory Police Record Report Knowledge of yard, event and property equipment functions. • Ability to work independently. • General knowledge of boats and nautical charts. • Ability to work under stress and pressure. • Good communication and public relations skills. • Knowledge of occupational health and safety act and ensure all aspects are being adhered to. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: • Must provide proof of Medical Examination stating fitness for holding a commercial boat operators position. • Must be capable of lifting objects of up to 60 pounds. • Must be capable of bending, lifting and standing throughout a 14-hour shift. • Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions for extended periods of time. • Must be able to work at elevations in excess of 7700 feet. • Must be able to work in any type of weather. • Must be able to work in stressful situations. • Must be able to walk, stand, and work for long periods. • Work is subject to physical hazard, is carried out in all types of weather conditions and is subject to stress and interruptions at all hours including evenings and weekends. REMUNERATION The salary will be commensurate with the qualifications of the successful candidate.
