Job Summary

Sets-up and operates equipment in performing operations such as drilling, tapping, reaming, pressing, sintering, and labeling on items similar in nature but varying in size.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

·         Operate production machinery such as Hardige, drill and tap, Hone, Bridgeport, furnace, press, and Petroff.

·         Reads blueprint or job order for special operating instructions and product specifications such as dimensions and tolerances, and tooling instructions such as fixtures, feed rates, cutting speeds, depth of cut, and determines sequence of operations.

·         Selects, positions, and secures tool in toolholder (chuck, collet, or toolpost).

·         Positions and secures workpiece in holding device, machine table, chuck, centers, or fixtures.

·         Moves controls to position tool and workpiece in relation to each other, and to set specified feeds, speeds, and depth of cut.

·         Changes holding fixtures, tools, and tool holders.  Sets up fixture or feeding device, starts machine and activates machine to feed tool to workpiece or vice versa, and engages feed.

·         Adjusts speeds and feeds.

·         Changes dull or broken tooling.

·         Loads and unloads parts from machinery.

·         Turns valve handle to direct flow of coolant or cutting oil against tool and workpiece.  Replenishes coolant reservoir.

·         Observes operation of machine and verifies conformance of machined workpiece to specifications.  Maintains quality standards, checking and recording dimension and /or specifications as needed; notifying supervisor of any defective product or processes.

·         Moves materials, parts, tooling, and containers.

·         Notifies supervisor regarding difficulties with tools and materials or malfunction of equipment.
