Unit Description:
Total # of beds in the unit: 15. Nurse to patient ratios 1 CST and 1 RN per patient. No Ancillary Staff. Patients range in age from Neonates to Geriatrics. Staff works in 8 hour shifts. Unit patient population: Ophthalmology, Head & Neck, Podiatry, Gyn & General Surgery, etc. Special Unit Procedures that could cause ethical issues: D&E, Blood products/transfusions. Documentation System: Peri-Op Record via Health Connect OP Time. Supplemental Staff required to float when necessary. Scrubs can be any color, RN provides their own scrubs
The role of the perioperative nurse / operating room nurse (OR RN) is to provide care for patients before, during, and after surgery or surgical procedures. The OR nurse / OR RN also serves as patient educator, circulating nurse and/or scrub nurse, and potentially RN first assistant or operating room director with additional training. Circulating OR nurses work within the operating suite but outside of the sterile field; scrub OR nurses handle and prepare operating instruments and equipment within the sterile field. Perioperative nurses work in every type of healthcare facility, including hospitals, ambulatory or outpatient surgery centers, and physician offices.
Required Qualifications
1. 2 years of Circulating experience required within the last 3 years
2. Scrub and Circulate experience
3. experience with eye surgery and maxilo facial
4. experience w/Orthopedic cases and Neuro Surgery cases
5. Cardiac Surgery experience.
6. Total Joints, spine, and ENT experience
