General Manager

Whelan Security is looking for a talented and driven leader to drive service and profitable business in the Chicago area!

At Whelan, we provide a full range of security staffing services across many diverse industries and vertical markets throughout the Chicago loop, outer loop and surrounding areas of Illinois. Our current business is concentrated in the CBD – with operations out of our primary office in the heart of the downtown area.



Requirements

The General Managerhas complete management responsibility for the Chicago business unit and satellite operations in the Illinois area. In this position, you will be required to utilize appropriate marketing and sales methodologies to develop profitable business in contract security services. Specific responsibilities include:
  • Provide and maintain a comprehensive business program that determines the branch organizational structure, establishes branch policy and reporting procedures, and overall management of human recourses
  • Propose annual budgets, reconcile monthly/quarterly closings, control and reduce costs, monitor cash flow, and establish branch pricing guidelines in accordance with instruction from Executive Vice President
  • Select, train and manage sales persons, motivate sales personnel, forecast sales throughout year, and create and maintain a positive image within the branch and community
  • P articipate in the recruitment, selection, orientation, training, and continual development of staff
  • Prospect for new clients by networking, cold calling, advertising or other means of generating interest
  • Plan persuasive approaches and pitches that will convince potential clients to do business with the company
  • Develop a rapport with new clients, and set targets for sales and provide support that will continually improve the relationship
  • Grow and retain existing accounts by presenting new solutions and services to clients


Mandatory Prerequisites

The ideal candidate will have at least 5+ years of progressive management or supervisory experience. A college degree (Bachelors) is preferred although equivalent experience will be considered. Previous contract services, hospitality, military or law enforcement experience is also desirable. Candidates must demonstrate a stable work history and pass an extensive background screening which includes, but is not limited to, criminal background checks (local, state, and federal), drug test, aptitude tests, skills assessments, interviews, past employment verification, and a personality profile (behavioral assessment).
